So I have a female guinea pig and she is a few months old. She use to be full of energy, ran around her cage and when you opened her bag with food she would squeak and get all excited. She use to purr when you pet her. Now she is not energetic and drags her back legs and even sitting she’s just laying on her side but standing in the front. She also has been pooping on herself. She is still eating and drinking water though. She doesn’t act like she is in pain despite all of this. What could this possibly be ? Could she be paralyzed ? I don’t know of any incidents she has been in that she has gotten injured. It’s like she started being like this randomly one day and then progressively gotten worse and I am very concerned. Please Help!

I would take her to be seen by the vet. No one can diagnose her problem over the internet. Someone more knowledgable will be along later.

Please please please see a vet asap. It could be an injury or something else but a vet needs to determine what has caused this. Hopefully no further damage has been done by not seeking a vets opinion earlier

Hi and welcome!

Please have your piggy vet checked to see what is causing the back leg paralysis and then being able to address it appropriately; ideally as soon as you can get a vet appointment.
Any diagnosis and ensuing treatment relies on a hands-on vet examination and if necessary a scan. It can sometimes require quite a bit of detective work from an experienced vet to work out what is going on. But it is definitely not your common old age sudden calcium drop paralysis that you come across online!

Here are our tips on how to best care for a guinea pig with mobility issues; the link also contains a list of problems that can cause loss of mobility, even though it may not be exhaustive: Looking after guinea pigs with limited or no mobility

To everyone who gave me advice on what to do thank you. I took Cali my guinea pig to the vet and turns out she has a back injury that was to serious for them to do anything that would have helped her. The best option was to put her to sleep so she is no longer in pain. Thanks again to everyone for advice
