My 8 week old guinea pig never moves.
open
I can leave him in the middle of the floor, surrounded by food and he never moves. He recently had an eye infection, that we treated with drops. Can anyone offer any information?

We will need an health and illness member to answer you question Sarah .

Can you give us a bit more information...

How many Guinea pigs do you have ? Is he on his own ?

Is he eating the food you give him?

Are you happy to add your location to your profile ? We have members from all over the world and it is really helpful to know whether you are based in the UK/US – or elsewhere. Having an idea of your Country + location can sometimes help us tailor our advice .

Here is a link to help you do this …

I will be honest and say i think your guinea pig is very young and most probably terrified.
Staying absolutely still feels like the safest option for him.
Does he have a companion (who can help him feel a little braver)?
Maybe he isn't ready for wide open spaces quite yet.
How does he seem when he is in his cage?
Maybe try putting him out with lots and lots of different boxes and tunnels to hide in, and scattering tasty fresh veg around so he is encouraged to explore.

He does look very vulnerable in the middle of the floor like that. Does he eat when he is in his cage?

He may be frightened and has decided that staying still is the safest option at this time. A lot of new guinea pigs won't explore or eat if they don't feel safe. Is he eating and drinking in his cage? Pooping normally? Gaining weight? Are his eyes clear? Is he sitting hunched up with his fur puffed out? These things are a better indication of ill health than not feeling safe enough to engage in a new space. Hope this helps a bit!
