Is Stuff On The Other Forum I Learned Right

So I have learned a Bit of other stuff on the other forum and I wanted to ask if it was ok what I was doing and If I was informed right? It was just a General Question and I wanted to ask if these things are true or just Myths I just wanted to learn the way of this thread

1 - Midwest Guinea Pig Habitats Are Down Right Bad Only C&C CAGES

This one is obvious

2 - You Better Sex Your Guinea Pig By Force

I was told that I better Sex my Guinea Pig No matter what it can't be bad as getting a Female Pregnant. I did what I was told and I had to go the Hopsital cause my Guinea Pig Clawed Me

3 - Sometimes Your Guinea Pigs are the Only Ones that Matter not your Life

Their were some situations when your Guinea Pig Only mattered and other life issues had to be put aside

I think the important thing is the size of the cage. The bigger the better, whatever your setup is.

What do you mean 'by force'? All you have to do is look at the bits. I think there's a photo somewhere on the forum showing male and female bits.

Not sure who wrote that last one but of course your life matters. The same as they matter. If it were the case who would take care of them if you couldn't? That's an odd one I can't get my head round.

1- Midwest habitat cages aren't bad. They're actually reasonably big and suitable for two piggies - some people here on the forum speak quite highly of them and I was leaning towards ordering one.

2- as above I don't know quite what you mean by force? Obviously guinea pigs don't like it but it shouldn't be anything painful. Just press slightly above the genital area and observe the sex.

3-I think that must've been written in terms of - if you can no longer keep a guinea pig or pay vet fees etc then you should think about what is best and right for the guinea pig not just for you.

I was told that Midwest Guinea Pig Cages didn't have enough space as GP's Need Flat Space the Admin directly said that Midwest Guinea Pig Cages weren't that great and they needed more space
 
I also know of several people on here who have attached 2 (or more) Midwest cages to offer more space, by using what they can get hold of.
C&C cages are fantastic, but not everyone can get them, so there re lots of other solutions.
Maybe take a look in the Members Gallery in the housing section.
There are some incredibly inspiring ideas in there showing how it is possible to create a wonderful guinea pig cage in lots of different ways.

Sexing a piggy is important but can also be difficult if you have a reluctant piggy.
Try to make sure you have a competent person around to give you a hand if you are worried. Sometimes 2 pairs of hands are better then one - it actually takes 3 of us to clip a certain guinea pig's nails in our home :doh:

And as far as placing a value on a life I don't think you can.
Everyone and everything is valuable, but if you don't take care of yourself, then you are no good to your guinea pig.
That;s why on an airplane they always tell you to put your own oxygen mask on first, before helping others. :nod:

@Alex Read I'm not sure what other forum you are talking about but we have made it very clear that we are not linked with or affiliated to any other forum. Whatever issues you may have currently or may have had in the past with any other forum please do not use this forum as a venue to vent your frustration. We do not embark upon (and do not permit members to embark upon) other forum bashing.

This is an internet based forum. In any Internet forum you will get a divergence of opinions and answers to questions. We have no idea what your original posts or questions were to any other forum or how those were responded to. So we can't say you were given the right advice or the wrong advice.
If you have legitimate questions about housing please open a new thread in the relevant section in the forum with details of your set up, number of piggies, size of cage etc.
Similarly if you want help sexing a guinea pig please start a new thread in the relevant section and post photos.
 
You are starting to sound like a person with a serious grudge, please don't let it ruin your stay with us. I'm watching! :twist:

in my opinion you are doing a common mistake... You are convinced that "other people" are more knowledgeable than you, no matter who they are, what they have studied, if they are healthy people, ignorant people, trolls of the net... no matter. "The Others" know; you don't. This is the mistake... A forum is a square where people meet for talking... when I go out for a walk to the park, walking the dog, I also meet other owners, but they are not "The Gods of veterinary science"; they are people; they can know a lot and they can be ignorant.
before going and chatting with other owners, I think the best thing to do is STUDYING on the net, searching for those VERY GOOD websites which explain updated scientific news about our pets (or about whatever you like to LEARN). THEN, when you know A LOT, you can go chatting with the people; you will be able then to be selective, to realise if you can meet into a forum group someone who is seriously updated and "expert" about piggies. And anyway, I honestly don't trust anybody here and out of here. If a Sportbilly says I had better switch OFF the air conditioning at home, I simply don't care of his opinion and I don't do that, because I perfectly know that what I am doing is not harmful.
Of course, if into a group of people (forum or people met at the park) I see too much ignorance, well, I say goodbye and I go and search other people. And our brain should remain active...
anyway, talking of those topics you have discussed with those people: I want to suggest (for the future) what you have to do every time you have a doubt:
1- go and google "recommended cage size for guinea pigs"
2- go and google "sexing guinea pigs"
3- go and google "caring guinea pigs" (read carefully, think about it and then decide)
so difficult? considering that all the best info are written in your native language, can you explain where is the difficulty?
Internet is not only forums, fb and other rubbish. On the net you can read also scientific magazines, veterinary information, or a lot of opinions. But they are only OPINIONS.
The most dangerous thing is when you say "I did what I was told". Well, now I tell you: take your piggie and throw it out the window. Will you do it as well?
Think for yourself and don't waste time only talking and talking and talking. READ before talking, so that next time you will reply to those people in the correct way.
another advice: select the people. The world is filled with insane brains...
 
No No I'm not mad at the other forum I was asking about the cage and if it's suitable I always believe that you should source when you get your information. That's all I was asking cause I need To Know If this cage is ok or no I need a Simple Answer not repeats I understand the forum is part of the past I was just asking cause I wanted to know everyone else's knowledge cause when you do a Project or anything You don't only go to one source that's just common sense and I was asking Opinions on here I am sorry for not explaining myself properly it's just I'm new to English well not new. Sometimes I struggle to type in English and explain myself cause Spanish is my first language. I learned through Cartoons and writing I'm sorry If I'm confusing anyone it's just after 10 years of self learning sometimes I struggle to choose the right words I was asking cause I wanted to know your beliefs not just one person's I understand the forum is part of the past and I have excepted that I'm not trying to get everything in a knot I'm trying to get explanations if I was actually doing thing's right sadly I had one picture of my Guinea Pig's Genitals but my Phone got damaged and so did the picture It looked like a Girl but I plan on taking her to the Exotics soon

I tend to buy hay based on smell. These days I buy hay off a farm via eBay. Their hay is so fresh it still smells grassy and my pigs LOVE it. I've never come across any other hay that smells so good.

This is what I did. I took a small animal playpen and attached to the sides of a small shelf. Will have to upgrade when they are bigger but for now it works.

of course I know you are NOT mad, but you trusted some mad people who suggested to sex the piggie "by force" and in fact you had to go to the hospital :)) I am sure there is some Piggie Angel up there who sent you a clear message:sly:...
About the english, I also have difficulty but reading an article is never difficult. Anyway, here you can find very interesting "articles" written by moderators and of course they explained things in a easy way, but the sources come from vet medicine. There is nothing invented.
A vet suggested me to study (his words: "no read, but STUDY and learn") what is written in Guinea Lynx website. Reading in english is also a good exercise for us and when you talk with a doctorr and you already know a lot of the matter, the doctor has a different attitude towards you.
