I completely understand this is a guinea forum! But I'm having some urgent trouble and I know you guys on here are extremely helpful! So I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about rabbits who can help me!

My sisters rabbit seems too be having problems. It seems kind of big and bloated and quite scared, usually her rabbit is very active but she seems too just be sitting around, not really interested! I'm not sure how much food it has eaten (as there are two rabbits and have only just noticed the problem) however I placed a treat stick in the cage which the rabbit usually goes crazy for! But has only been taking small bites! I'm very worried as it is not it's normal active self! If anyone can help, that would be wonderful!

I'm again sorry about posting in a guinea pig forum, I'm just so scared! Thankyou very much in advance!

It sounds like g.I. I am afraid the rabbit needs to see a vet right away. This once happened to my rabbit and he had to be put on a drip but made a full recovery. I wish you luck.

Thankyou very much everyone! I live in the UK and it's currently 10:15pm on a Sunday. Is it still possible too get an emergency vet at this time?

Yes, E-vets are open all hours. If you ring your local vet they should have a answerphone service with the number on. Or google vets in your town

Just another little update! Tabby is now back home with her sister. The vets told us she has a pretty serious but common condition within rabbits! She was given fluids under the skin too keep hydrated and a number of injects too try and kick start immune system too work again! As well as painkillers. And we have been given some liquid food to force feed her! We sadly were told she may not survive the night, however if she does (and I know she will!) she will need too be taken to our normal vets in the morning!

She's a strong little girl! I have a good feeling :)

Big hugs to her and best of luck as well, keep fighting little one!

Stasis is such a common ailment in rabbits but it can kill very quickly if the signs are not spotted. Rabbits have such delicate stomachs that even a bit too much of a usual food can affect them.

Louie has had a few episodes but, having had him for 5 years, I now easily spot the beginnings of an episode. If caught early, I offer warm water and massage his tummy. This should have some effect within about an hour. If Louie doesn't start eating after that then I take him to the vet for treatment.

Hoping Tabby is feeling better this morning xx

She seems too be feeling better this morning :) she is booked in the vets for 3 this afternoon! She is wondering around a lot more this morning where as last night she would barely move! She even jumped off my sisters knee and took a trip onto the kitchen table, hehe! (I'll insert a picture!)

I'm hoping for a quick recovery!

What a pretty bunny! I hope she continues to recover :-)

She is a beautiful bunny, and well done for rescuing her. Hope she keeps improving. Gut stasis and bloat is such a horrible condition for rabbits, well done for picking it up so quickly.

Glad you caught the gut stasis in time, if caught promptly it is usually easy to treat if it's nothing too complex. If your bunny ever stops eating or moving or pooing then it's definitely time for a vet trip as a bunnies gut must keep moving at all times. Gut problems are usually caused by the gut slowing (e.g. due to gas or not eating enough) or a blockage.

If it happens again I would always visit the vet and get a diagnosis on the cause before you attempt any syringe feeding of food or water in case it's a blockage.

She had another 3 injections today and she also seems to be a little more lively today :) not completely back too normal yet, but getting there I think! She had a drink from her water bottle and ate a bit of her normal food! As well as the food the vet gave us too force feed her :) she seems too be doing well!

She also has another trip to the vets tomorrow! For another check up :)

Ouch, yes I thought this sounded like stasis. My Lucy bun used to get it quite a bit (not helped by the fact she's a hairy lionhead) and I found her prescribed Zantac syrup really helped her. She doesn't seem to have problems with her tummy now.

I think Tabby was given Zantac too :) I hope that will help!

Good news :)

Tabby has had her final trip too the vets today and they said everything is looking good :)

She is also getting back to her normal active self! :) she's a strong girl!

I just want too say a huge thank you for everyone's help, advise and love :) I appreciate it! :D
