I have a 11month old female guinea pig who is only 680g but my 5 month old is nearly 875g! She is perfectly healthy but just wondering if different guinea pigs can develop differently to each other. They are rescues and I have no idea what breeds they are but the 11 month is a flat coated and pretty small for her age and the 5 month is a chubby looking potato(haha she is really!) with rosettes around her body. This probs isn’t any help but I thought I would say anyway!

Like humans, piggies come in all shapes and sizes. As long as your 11 month is still gradually gaining (as the weight is not quite that of a fully grown adult) then she is fine. I have experienced both extremes. I have a current 8 month old who is already 1kg and still gaining! But I have also had a small piggy who I had from 6 weeks til she passed at 5 and a half years whose heaviest weight was around 850g.

Thank you! They are in a cold part of the house at the moment but there too is next on the list to get done with heating so hopefully she will also gain weight along with that. All of them (since moving into that room) have lost a bit of weight but nothing too worrying. About 50g each maybe.

Just make sure you are weighing them regularly. I do mine every Sunday. If they lose anymore weight I would pop them for a health check as they shouldn't be continually losing but hopefully it's just adjusting to a new situation

Hi

Please make sure that they are warm and well insulated as quickly as possible. You will find tips on what you can do immediately in this guide here: Cold Weather Care For Guinea Pigs

I would also recommend to additionally offer plain porridge oats until you can sort out the heating in order to compensate of the increased calorie demand.
