I've been reading posts about abscess and was wondering, is this an abscess? It's a lump and it's not really attached to the body, it's like, it's hanging there if this makes sense? For sure I will take my boar to the vet soon but for now, asking here is what I can do. :(

Is it a mat in the hair? Or is it under the skin? Any lumps on the body do need to be checked out by a vet as they can be any number of things

I’m struggling to tell from the photos. Can you feel a definite lump there? In which case it needs to be identified by a vet. Or is it a clump of hard crusty stuff?

I'm trying to take a better photo but it's quite hard to really show it. Nevertheless it is a lump, and yes I think it is kind of a hard crusty stuff? :(

My immediate thought when I saw it was that it could be a clump of boar glue (dried semen). However, if there is definitely a lump underneath, that’s a different matter. Is it possible to soak the crust off? I’ve been known to very carefully snip hair off that is coagulated with boar glue. If there is a lump underneath the matted hair or it looks like something is seeping out, I’d definitely get it vet checked.

I would love to be able to help but I still don't understand whether you are feeling a lump under the skin or whether it's on top and crusty. If it's crusty and there is a lump under the skin it sounds like something has burst and if it were an abscess I think you would know as the stench is unmistakable. You could use some lukewarm water and a cotton pad or flannel to gently bathe the area to see if it removes the crusts if you can't tell what's there but if you can feel a lump under the skin I would get straight to the vet, given the position I would want to make sure any risk of infection is minimised

On second thoughts, and being mindful of not leading you down the wrong path, I’d go with trying to soak the crust off first. It’s very near the nipple and I wouldn’t want you to catch him with the scissors. Another possible thing could be a fungal skin issue. I once had a female who got a crusty nipple. If there is a lump or you are in any doubt at all then a vet trip would be a good plan.

Sorry, I am so bad at describing things, but thanks, I will try that :)

Thank you, I do hope it's not harmful. I will try to soak the crust off soon :)
