My piggys are still very shy but i try to get them out for a bit when possible.

This is Peanut, hes very noisy when i get him out but he moves around alot and will even climb on my chest right up to my face and sit there for ages while squeaking and having a wash. His squeaking is so high pitched though =(

I'm uploading a video but its taking a while so i'll post asap.

No, it is completely normal for a youngster to be vocal and it is difficult to sit still at the age!

In the wild, young piggies like Peanut would be at their most vulnerable, so they are chuntering continously as a permanent status report - they would be only quiet if they were asleep or facing a real threat. He is probably rather excited and somewhat apprehensive (i.e. louder than nromal), but if he is washing himself, then he is probably trying to make friends with you - piggy style!

Thank you for your reply :)

He seems quite happy to sit with me outside of the cage but when he is back inside he runs and hides if I get too close, as does Rupert. Its like they're on high alert all the time.

I know it takes a while for them to settle in, I just wish there was something I could do. I've never kept piggies before Peanut and Rupert, so any advise you have about settling them and gaining their trust would be great :)

My piggy Nutty is nearly two and still like that! Nibbles always looks like a tired first time mum in the mornings and I have to take Nutty out and carry him round in a customised sling while I do my chores. I think its normal while they're young. I seem to remember Nibbles and Nugget calming down when they were about two so fingers crossed Nutty follows in their paw prints! :)

The key is patience, patience, patience and persistence. Lure them with little veg treats. Establish a firm routine with the same rituals so they learn what to expect. Don't hover over them.

Amy, what did you use to make your sling?

At the moment I wrap mine up in a towel, and carry them around/have them on my lap while I do things.
