Is This Average?

Hi everyone. So we go through a 25kg bale of Woodshavings every month with 2 rabbits and 3 guinea pigs. It seems crazy that I am using this much and was wondering if you would consider it to be average?

The rabbits used to have 2 litter trays which I have reduced to one, and that is thoroughly cleaned every 2 days. The guinea pigs are fully spot cleaned daily (I remove all wet patches, so sometimes I need to remove a lot) and are thoroughly cleaned once weekly where all the bedding is replaced.

Bearing in mind the rabbits litter tray is a 32L storage box, so quite large, and their other litter tray was a dog bed which was around the same size. I reduced it to one, as I was also wasting quite a lot of hay by their desire to soil it.

So again, would you say it's average for me to use a 25kg bale of bedding monthly with 2 rabbits and 3 guinea pigs? I bought this new bale on May 17th, and officially ran out on June 17th.

I also go through a huge bale of hay a month on average, the bedding is £8.50 and the hay is £5.50. I start college in September and don't have a job, so my dad buys all of my pet supplies and I feel awful that I use so much, so quickly ..

Oh, and I should mention that the rabbits live in a shed with lino on the floor, so I don't use the shavings for their main area, that just gets sweeped daily and disinfected regularly. The only shavings we use for them are in their litter tray.

Yes i think its normal to be using this much sawdust. I have only one guinea pig he is on a balanced diet however i go through a medium sized sawdust proberbly in a week. How often do you clean your cages out?

I didnt use a bale a month with the same number of pets if that helps :-) mine probably lasted 2 months but it depends on cage size and everything and how anal on cleaning you are I guess I always clean the pigs weekly and bunnies every 3 days
