Hi, i've just cleaned out my new piggie, Maisey. And in her little waffle blocks house i've put in some fluffy pink bedding stuff that we brought for my sister's hamster, but we found that my sister's hamster, Rosie, would sleep in it and not come out and felt we were making her too cosy so didnt use it again.
It's been put away and i thought i'd use it for my guinea pig to snuggle down in as she's only 9 weeks old and they get cold and she likes to go underneath duvets and stuff so thought it would be good, but she won't eat it will she?

Fluffy bedding is very, very dangerous for hamsters AND guinea pigs. She might eat it and it could end up causing a serious blockage in her gut. Same goes for your sister's hamster - it's even more of a risk for hammies because they pouch things.

Hay is the best thing to make your pigs cosy and toilet paper is the best choice for hamsters (they also love to shred it up to customise their bed!)

I've never used it but I didn't know that - why on earth are they allowed to sell it as suitable for hamsters 'and other small animals' in that case? That's awful!

it is terrible, i tried it on my max (hamster) when he was poorly (he was ill when i got him) and he put it in his pouches, worried me so much i decided never again!

I use Carefresh bedding and TotalComfort and maybe anything resembling those 2 types of bedding. but NEVER cedar, pine, wood shavings of any kind or scented bedding.

where's this totalcomfort from? i've never heard of it!

I live in the US so you may not have it over in the UK, I don't know

Goodness knows. Seems ridiculous, especially for hamsters that are forever sticking things in their pouches. It doesn't break down in the gut if swallowed.

i would imagin it could actually block the gut and tie it all up!

I used to have 2 hamsters- one would stuff the pink fluff into his pouches and go up to his tower and then dump it there and sleep in it up in his tower. I don;t think he actually tried to eat it though, but now that I am reading this, I don;t think I will use that stuff for hamsters again.

I used some of that fluffy bedding for my gerbils when I was young, I ended up losing 2 babies because they got it tangled around their legs and necks. Not nice. :o(

Well i'ver had to take it out because it freaked her out LOL. I then put it in Cookie's cage to see if she would snuggle into it, but she tempted to eat it so had to take it out right away.

I dunno why they sell bedding like that suitable for hamsters and guinea pigs if it's dangerous for them then.

I do use hay for my piggies, just wanted something to put in with the hay to make it more cosy. :)
