Hi, I'm looking at housing options for piggies, it would be nice to have them indoors but I've got to weigh everything up. :)

Does this look suitable? Comments?

If they are outside will they be in a heated shed? Really, guinea pigs are much happier indoors.

To me that looks pretty awesome, how many piggies will live there?

Could you not make a c and c? The hutch will not give much light. Also c and c cages can offer more space which is what counts with piggies.

I'm not sure, I haven't got any piggies and will be rescuing when I do. How many would be comfortable in there? Thanks x

Only two could live in the hutch. With guinea pigs you go by floor space not levels.

Ok thank you, but why is it done in this way, surely the floorspace adds up?
Because guinea pigs are not climbers. Many will not even use ramps. My c and c is all one level. It is great you are doing so much research. You will have very happy piggies.

i think piggies would struggle with that hutch. the tops of the ramps mean they would have to jump and twist to land. can't see them doing that to be honest. definitely recommend a c+c cage :)

Can't you put sides on the ramps and cover ramp service with fleece so they can grip?

Ours are outside in the run see below. Seperated by mesh as they have been fighting .

If you plan on having them indoors, I would recommend a C&C cage instead as it would have more space on one level and they do love zooming around!

2 of my boys live in a 2 tier cage, and have no problems with the ramp. The other 3 have a home made 2 layer arrangement with a stair case though they tend to jump up and down and i've even seen them jump from the roof of the 2nd floor:eek: They have a lot of floor space which I think is important.

This was taken when we had put the wire mesh wall up. There is a cover wire mesh which has been reinforced and I put blankets and waterproof cover over. .When it's colder I have and door run.

I had my rescue piggies in an outdoor hutch & they hated it :( They wouldn't come to me at all, they'd just run & hide if anyone went near them. It was so sad.

Personally, I found cleaning a hutch to be a nightmare :( Their urine stained the sides of the hutch too. Mine was one from pets at home & had a plastic pull out base.. Not worth it! Lol

Then I tried an indoor 5ft cage. They loved it, all the extra space. Didn't take them long to come out of their shells in that! But again, cleaning it was awful. I'm not the tallest person & I would have to climb in the cage to clean it properly! Nightmare. Lol

I've just become a c&c cage convert. They really are as easy as people say. I've just cleaned mine out for the first time today. My 3 girls have got a 5x2 cage, half is covered in Fitch bedding and half in fleece. I absolutely love it! It has to be the easiest set up! The only gripe I have is bending over to clean it. Haha. But it's dead easy to clean & the piggies absolutely love the space. It's around a foot bigger than their indoor cage, but seems to fit better in the room so it looks more spacious in there!

Another drawback to a hutch is that they will kick their bedding/poo everywhere! Lol. There was even one occasion where we ended up with pee on the door. Fine cos they were outside, but I wouldn't want that inside :/

How many piggies were you thinking of getting? Have you got your eye on any atm? I love my little girls <3 They're so cheeky!

With the c&c cage is the Fleece on your carpet? Can you post a picture please?
I have home made indoor run two tier but the boys don't get on so it will need to be changed . Out door run has space this is divided now!

There is a top to protect and it's got a waterproof cover .ive got an indoor run too which we now have to alter due to them fighting!

This is my current set up.. My bunny lives underneath the pigs :)

The cage has a fleece liner and cosies and the other half is Fitch and toys to chew x

I have a shower curtain then incontinence pads then fleece to protect the floor but if you have correx you don't need the shower curtain down. The group of four are in a 5x3 c&c and the six are in a 5x4 c&c on the floor with litter trays.I sit in the cage to clean it as can't bend
