Just back from being on placement for 3 days and come home to find Maple has this on her lip. I tried cleaning it but nothing came off and it feels like a scab. Mum has been looking after the piggies and I will ask her if she has fed any fruit when she gets home as I know excess fruit can cause chelitis.

No, that looks like a full on bite wound to the mouth. I would see a vet re. disinfection and whether an antibiotic may be needed. :(

Cheilitis looks like that: http://www.guinealynx.info/cheilitis.html
Oh no! I am literally just back from the vet with Daisy and its an hour away! Can it wait til Monday or does it need to be seen sooner? I am away for the weekend tomorrow! Am I ok to keep both girls together? They seem fine together :/

Can you get hibiscrub from the pharmacy and carefully disinfect the area with a cotton bud, ideally by gently working off the scab? If possible, see whether the bite has fully penetrated the lips. You have to have too keep a careful eye on the lip in the next week or two, in case it develops an abscess.

See how the girls are with each other and if necessary, separate. Sows can fall out and will usually not go back together if they had a fight. It is just a lot rarer than with boys. You can get away with it, if it is just a bad scratch, but once you get into bites, you've usually had it.

I am very sorry that it has happened at such an inconvenient time for you. :(

The chemist is shut now but I will pop in tomorrow morning and try that. I tried cleaning it with cool boiled water but nothing came off.
They seem perfectly fine with each other just now and mum hasn't noticed any changes with them. I really hope they will be ok together. :(

Mum says they have been lying up in the loft area together like they usually do. And she hasn't heard any rumbling or dominant behaviour. I will keep a very close eye on them.

Last night both girls slept up in the loft beside each other. This morning I put them our for floor time whilst I cleaned their cage. I heard some teeth chattering from Daisy and submissive squeaks from Maple. It didn't last too long. I would usually keep them out for a few hours but once their cage was clean I thought it might be best just to put them back. They are perfectly fine together tucking in to a pile of hay. They also ate their veggies alongside each other this morning.

Here they are just now..

@Wiebke do you think they will be ok together? Any advice? They have been together since september. I really don't want their bond to be broken as I have no room for any more piggies :(
