So Duncan's young, just over a year old, and I'm worried. His poops are just not right, too small, they're not a solid colour and he seems to be having trouble pooping even though he doesn't always squeak. They're just not healthy looking and there aren't as many as there should be. He seems to be eating and drinking as normal, but does he need a vet visit?

Please see a vet; it can be a problem with the bladder/urinary tract, the guts or a pain issue elsewhere. Most often it is the urinary tract that is causing the pain.
Please supplement with syringe and water; small and thin poos means that he is not eating enough. If he is dehytrated, mix dioralyte from the pharmacy into the water (follow the instructions on the sachet) until you can have him seen.

If you live in an urban area, google for 24 hour/out of hours services that only charge a small extra fee during their normal day time hours if you can't get an appointment with your regular vets.

All the best!

I don't want to seem stupid but can mites cause reduced appetite? I have a bad gut feeling. He's scratching a lot and there are a few scabs on his skin and he is not happy about it being touched. I'll get him to a vet as soon as I can, I was just curious. If I gently lift the fur on his rump he squeaks and shuffles away.

Unless you are dealing with advanced mange mites, no there is no reduction in appetite. But it can well be what is behind the reduced appetite has lowered the immune system to to allow the mites to pounce.

Please step in with syringe feed (mushed up pellets will do) and water asap and have your piggy and his friend seen by a piggy savvy vet on Monday if possible.
