they have sunflower seeds wheat chaf maize dog bisuicts n fresh veg like broccill carrott ect is that a ok diet and also chook pellets

They need an unlimited supply of dust extracted hay, (this wears down their teeth and aids their digestions)

Guinea pig pellets

and a variety of fresh vegitals/salad.

They can not have seeds, and i am sure dog biscuits are no good for them as guinea pig's are vegiterian?

so it could be the seed that killed my other ones i feel like a crual person all my guinea pigs die

I don't know hun, but they should probably only be fed Guinea Pig pellets and veggies. I highly doubt dog biscuits are good for them. http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=42 is a link to veggies and fruit that are good for Guinea Pigs as well as veggies and fruit that are not good for them. Burgess pellets are what my boys eat and they really like those. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along soon to give you advice.

You can get other pellets that are similar to those. There are a bunch of threads right above this one that tells different Guinea Pig pellets to use. Ask Glynis what she uses as she is also in Oz.

The diet you are giving your guinea pigs is not suitable at all, I am afraid. Are you sure you cannot get any guinea pig pellets at all? I am sure you can get hay though and that is the most important thing. I found out you can get Oxbrow pellets which is a good make.

Do you also give your guinea pigs a handful of fresh vegetables twice a day?

i have hay is it ok to give them the hay i feed my horse and i am soo sorry i promise i will change there diet asap 8...

What is lucene? I have not heard of that. Hay is the right thing to give them. Their diet should be 90% hay so that will really help.

Well I have not heard of that. Do you have timothy hay there? That is what I use.

nah we only have is the hay fed to horses i am about to go out and grab heaps of hay from the bail

it says medow hay is good n thats what we got so going to get some and put it in the cage

Lucerne is another name for alfalfa - it is high in protein and calcium, unsuitable for pigs over 9 months old. Should only be fed in moderation (a small handful daily) to pregnant or lactating females and young guinea pigs.

80% of a pig's die should be made up of hay, the rest from a mix of veggies and guinea pig food. As guinea pigs need plenty of Vit C in their diet some daily veggies that are high in Vit C will be beneficial - a slice of pepper or piece of broccoli.

i have just taken the mix out and put lucerne and hay in along with carrott n brocill in

Ah the hay you are giving is not really suitable for your piggies unless they are babies. You mentioned medow hay? That is much better for them. How many piggies do you have and what are their names? It would be nice to see photos of them.

Hi Love i live in Victoria also!
I feed my girls meadow hay from the produce stores :) i buy mine from Mt. Evelyn, i don't know where abouts you are? I'm from Croydon.
Dont feed the mix they offer either in small bags, it's got lots of mollasses in it which is not good for piggies!
I buy a bag of the Dux piggie and rabbit from the supermarket (woolworths have it) it's not the best but it's the only product i can find without molasses!
I then feed broccoli and leaves, cauliflower, green beans, green and red peppers (take out the seeds!), cucumber (i buy the continental), and snow peas. One of my girls is diabetic so limited diet. They also eat cos lettuce (NEVER ICEBERG!) and the asian greens, silverbeet too.
If you tell me your area i can look up some info for you!

hey i live in teesdale 30 mins out of geelong i have given the medow hay like what i feed my horse but the wont eat it they are loving thier carrott and brocilly though

Yup i know where you are :)) a beautiful part of OZ !

ask your produce guy if they have any other hay.... don't let them offer you straw tho :)>>> i don't buy the lucerne i buy the 'meadow hay' which is different, you can buy this in bags (about 3.50 i pay) i use this as bedding and for eating and i buy 8 bags a fortnight, i do change their bedding twice a day tho so i go thru more than usual rolleyes

Offer even small amounts of fruits, but only try one at a time and give a small bit first to make sure it doesn't upset their tummies (remember it takes about 24hrs to go thru their system) They can eat the carrot tops too! they love the green part!

I just thought, if you can store your hay for the horse you must have those bale covers? then if they do like the meadow hay you could buy a bale and store it!
Piggies can't have wet or mouldy hay either, this will make them very ill.
If it's been raining when i buy my hay i put the bags near a heating vent to dry them out, i put my hand right down into the hay and make sure it's not damp at all.
Hope this info helps you love :)
I've also put a link to ACS australian cavy sanctuary on your other thread :)
