Is this enough for 2 young piggies for dinner? It weighs about 2oz...they have loads of hay and pellets...stressing again :hb:

Lol I know how you feel @artcasper I get really stressed in regards to food, what to give and how much. I've had to bug @helen105281 in pm about feeding lol.

I know it's 50g per day for older piggies, but no idea about younger :( so I'm interested in the answer to this as well.

just finding it hard.. they always seem very eager for breakfast and dinner when they know its coming whether it be fresh hay or veggies..

Yeap, mine wheek away for hay and veg :) but around 80-85% of their diet is hay anyway :) The rest is pellets and veg :) (that's what I've read at least) but when it comes to babies I know it's limitless pellets and hay, no idea about veg.

... and I'm staying quiet as I know I'm no role model . I find it so hard . I know I tend to be a bit generous with my portions.

I hope Helen and Wiebke join in this thread as I'd really appreciate their advice .

they get a good three handfuls of hay every day - twice a day - obviously they don't eat it all but its always fresh.. its hard when you have fussy kids to feed - but i can just chuck them a chocolate bar :( x

lol @PiggyOwner at least your honest! We were generous with ours but things happened that have made me very paranoid in regards to what to give them and how much.

It's ok @artcasper I'm a massive stress head as well. Don't you have an hay bag or something like that to stick some hay in? :) My Mum made me some via a guide on the forums.

LOL that's true.

I thought they could only have kale a few times a week? This is where i get confused...

My guineas don't get kale at all - it's one of the higher calcium veg in the cabbage family. If you give it at all, I would limit it to once or twice a week. Mine get a small piece of spring green / cabbage / broccoli morning and evening

I will probably horrify everyone else but my present piggies are the only ones that have ever had extras in the form of vegetables and pellets - all the others only ever had unlimited grass, hay and haylage with carrots as a treat. I no longer have access to safe unlimited grass so my current ones have to have pellets and vegetables with their hay to make up for the lack of grass. They do get dried grass but eat it grudgingly! They are also the first piggies that seem to have great variations in weight, which I had never noticed before in my others.

:DI give each of my girls almost twice that amount of veg and greens once a day. I often wonder if I'm giving them too much! :hmm:

That looks like a good portion to me , thogh I defo would not give any more than that , the greedy little ones will eat veg and ignore the all important hay needed
for digestion, and teeth wear .

it looks about right to me but it's hard to tell from a pic. you can buy measuring scoops as a guide. i got some off ebay. they were only cheap plastic ones but you got alot of different measuring scoops inside each other :)
