I dearly hope not but I've an awful, awful feeling that it is.

If so, aside from the obvious and book an appointment for my lovely little lady at the vets, what on earth do I do next? Leah lives in my herd so if this is a fungal infection it could potentially spread to all of them :... ... Leah is now inside, the minute I saw it she was brought in as I'm not taking any chances with this. I've checked all the other piggies and none of the others have any patches of hairloss, itchy skin round the ears/eyes/etc and they all look fine at the moment!

Mum and dad didnt notice this and considering that Leah is the most friendly pig that never leaves you alone this can't have been there long so i am hoping that I've caught whatever it is early and got her out soon enough.

I was also thinking that she could have been nipped and she's been scratting at it, but the white flaky skin is what worried me the second I saw it.

Please, help, I'm trying very hard not to panic but I don't know what to do!

It does look fungal but I'm not an expert, hopefully someone will be along soon..have you got a vets appointment for tomorrow then?

I haven't - I'm working all day tomorrow and won't be able to take her until Monday morning...

Is there anything I can get 'over the counter' for this to get us to Monday or am I best leaving it be and just monitoring it?

If you don't get any answers on this thread I'd P.M a few people like Wiebke, Amanda1801, Furry Friends and Pebble for advice, you may have to wait until morning for an experienced answer if everyone's already tucked up in bed. Good luck. x

I have very little experience of fungal so could be totally wrong, but it looks very similar to Scarlett's ear and that was fungal. The vet prescribed Surolan and it cleared up very quickly. I'm not a fan of self-medicating unless I have at least spoken to my vet on the phone - if you can get her in tomorrow that would be best, but Monday morning would probably be okay at a push.

With regards to infecting the rest of the herd, I can only tell you my experience. Womble, who lives with Scarlett, was totally unaffected, but Little Pig, who is in a different cage, got fungal at the same time. His cage mate, Bella, didn't get it - all very strange!

It certainly looks like fungal, i would treat it without a diagnoses though, please see a vet first. There are over the counter things that can help, but better to see a vet first.

I totally agree, it's better to wait for a vet opinion, if you get anything over the counter then it may not look the same when you see the vet, which could affect the diagnosis. Poor little thing, is it itchy for her? I would be careful handling her in case it's fungal, the usual precautions which I expect you know, all the handwashing after handling, handle your non-affected pigs before her etc, just to safeguard you & them.

That's what I was thinking- I just wanted to see if there was anything I could do just over the weeekend, but leaving it alone works too, she wasn't scratching a great deal last night or this morning.

I think it is quite sore for her as she has broken the skin but she was very good at not scratching. I just hope she's comfortable.

I don't know how long it will take for her to heal up but I'm more concerned about her being lonely now...
