Hi

Now with all this wet weather and coldness... I keep my piggies outside in a hutch and a run.. and I have to cover the run ALL the time with plastic (just to keep them dry) I have now decided that its not ideal for them to have a run until the spring (decent weather) and i have opted to get a huge hutch istead with toys and a snuggle safe or two in their bedding area... and IF i have a good day of nice weather i can attach their run to their hutch or at least put them all out in their run with a house to hide in just for a day on the grass...Ideally I would like to put them in our shed (that we have spare) but my dad being a horder of rubbish and junk.. its full to the brim and I have no room in there what so ever...pow-pow What I am asking is.. for 5 piggies is this hutch big enough...http://www. petsathome.com/shop/orchard-manor-guinea-pig-and-rabbit-hutch-by-pets-at-home-16038 Ive been looking for the biggest single floored hutch I could find and this is all I found...My piggies cannot cope with a ramp in their hutch (i have tried everything as i DID have a double hutch which i could of used) so i was looking for the biggest single floored hutch i could find.. what do people think? -c

I still have my double hutch... and looking at peoples hutch pictures and inside enclosure Ive noticed alot of people use ramps.. so I may try my lot out again on my double hutch (as that will fit 5 in) BUT what do I use to line the ramp? It *does* have grooves on though... I would like to try them all out on my double hutch to give it a go..

I think I shall try stapling toweling over their ramp.. with hay over the toy.. hopefully this should give them the grip they need :))

WOW 7ft.. that is ideal that hutch.. but like i said i think I shall try them out in their double hutch.. the tunnel idea though.. surely there must be no grip going in that tunnel though?

Oh and the pets at home link is here http://www.petsathome.com/shop/orchard-manor-guinea-pig-and-rabbit-hutch-by-pets-at-home-16038

I think the main problem with Guinea pigs and Ramps in 2 storey hutches is the openess of them. Guinea pigs love tunnels and would be happy to try out running through it I'm sure. Lots of people use fleece or carpet on their ramps. I have a C&C with the ramps covered in the cheap type cord carpet from a carpet runner. I think that putting hay on a ramp would be much more scary for Guinea pigs because it moves around underfoot giving them the sense of less stability under foot.
http://www.cosycavies.co.uk/products/tunnels/ These tunnels are a fantastic idea as they can be made to fit excatley with added velcro attachments to fasten securely to the ramp. If my piggies didnt like ramps this is what I would buy. :)p

Ok, I shall avoid the hay idea.. but I will cover the ramp in a fleece material... I wanted to move them asap.. so at the mo I don't have any fleece tunnels... so i will use the fleece idea till I get a tunnel... but my ramp is quite long though? so how would I go about ordering or having one made to fit my ramp?

Hi :) When I was looking for a new hutch for my 4 girls, I was concerned about a double story as I doubt they would use the ramp plus I have a fear of them falling out of the top part on to the concrete as they get overally excited at veg time and have often fallen out of their single story.

Anyway, I also opted for a single story and my 4 girls are in a 6ft by 2ft by 2ft and they have plenty of room. I am not sure of the dimensions of the orchard manor but if it is 7ft plus, it should be fine for 5 girls :)

I think the orchard manor is just over 6ft... I will be trying them on my 2 story hutch.. I am going to fleece line the ramp and *eventually* buy a tunnel (maybe fleece line that aswell) and attach that to their ramp... I am also going to make the entrance to the ramp (going down) a little narrower to avoid them falling down a bigger gap than they need... Well i suppose I can only try... if all else fails i will buy the Orchard manor.. and stick to the 1 story hutch.

If they still dont use the ramp with fleece, contact here http://www.cosycavies.co.uk/contact/, or like she said, contact her via her e-bay page http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/cosy_cavies.
Give her the dimensions and she will let you know price and time scale.

Love somes pics once you've got sorted x>>

Well in all this wet weather we had this morning and last night.. I was out in it this morning with my wellies and mac.. :)) managed to sort the piggies out.. they are all dry and cosey with a lovely fleece lined ramp.. (i have seen one of my piggies use the ramp twice so far xx>>> so I'm thinking if they ALL manage to use the ramp i'll just keep them in this one perminantly as their run fits onto this hutch aswell xx>>>

I will post piccies monday for you.. x>>

Thankyou everyone for your advice and help :)p
