is this just a coincidence, or did we "cure" him?

so roger podge had been limping for a few days, and i was at a loss because he had done nothing to hurt himself. well the other night i picked him up, and since had one of my hands on his bottom, i felt this lump underneath his man parts. i looked at him closer, and found quite a large, and seriously disgusting, blockage in his perineal sack. it was not poop, it was smemga (as i think it's called?) :)>>>. After we dug it out (which left both roger and OH traumatized, OH because of the smell!) we put him down, and he ran away-not limping! While i am ecstatic, i was wondering if this blockage could have caused him to limp? i mean, it is between his legs. or ist it a coincidence?

How big was the lump? If it was a large build up and maybe had a grass husk or some other small sharp bits I suppose it could have affected his gait. Boars do need to be checked and cleaned ( very gently and carefully) regulary especially unneutered boars who are a lot lower slung and tend to hoover up all sorts of detritus into their sacs but it must have been a huge build up if you think that affected his movement so i'm a bit dubious about it. There should be a sticky on boar bits and cleaning but if you can't find it look on Guinealynx. Keep an eye on him, tbh if he's had a limp you should see a cavy savvy vet and get him checked over, it really is better to be safe than sorry.

well, i always glimpse at his bits, and pull out any hay or bedding etc. when i picked him up, it felt like the size of a large marble. tbh, it was the first time i ever "dug deep" :red after we pulled it out, i felt where i felt it before, and i couldn't feel it anymore. we had taken him to the vet before, and he had xrays and said he was good. he was holding his leg, still putting some weight on it, but not fully. after we extracted the gross blockage (containing copius amounts of smegma, and some bedding) we put him down and he was fine. it was strange, but if it made him better I'm not going to argue!

The joys of having a boy!

I bet he's glad that's out of the way! It is a horribly smelly job :)>>> isn't it? Rocket's neutered now but when he was still intact and extremely large and low slung I was having to clean him constantly - he hoovered up so much rubbish into his bits! Euch! :)>>>
Hope the limp stays gone now. x
