Right... As the title says. Spice is squealing again when weeing. I have spoken to another (different) exotics vet at the same practise and he has suggested that because the squeaking died down and spice is currently eating normally (ie the condition is not stopping him pootering around wheeking for veg etc) that it would be a good idea to try 2 more weeks on septrin. (there has been a 5 day break, so I'm assuming this is basically like starting from scratch?

Anyway... to get to the point. I cannot find a guinea pig sound anywhere near this one, anywhere. It is not the same as patrics crying when urinating, but it isnt normal... right? Just looking for a little reassurance from some experienced owners that I am not in fact taking him to the vets over complaining.

I suspect not, simply because he only makes the noise when he pees. (or atleast, he only makes the noise while peeing when sat in a box with me. When he makes the noise in the cage I have no idea what hes doing)

Here is the link to the video... You have to turn the volume up really loud on the computer and photobucket, the noise begins around (sorry for the awfull quality, its the best my phone can do! 0:17

Please help :)

I'm not an expert and won't pretend to be, but that does sound like your little sweetheart is at least uncomfortable :( It isn't a normal cheerful piggie sound, I know that much :(
If you are ever worried you are always right to take your piggie to the vets, so don't panic about taking him for nothing. It is obviously something to you, and so that's always the right choice :)

*Sigh* I knew it was... its just odd that I couldnt find a sound like it anywhere. But hes back on antibiotics and if he goes off his food/looses weight he will be straight back on painkillers too.

Its a whining kind of sound. So if hes doing it only when he pees then i would say he may be uncomfortable.

However, my girls often make this noise to each other when they are a little bit annoyed or tired and want to be left alone. I have the odd pig who will make this noise when they dont want anymore cuddles and want to go back for a wee, and others who make the noise if they simple dont want a stoke and want to be left be.

Its hard to say, but i say go on your gut instincts. No one knows your pig as well as you do, and if you think hes uncomfortable then i would get him checked out. Maybe try getting a urine sample to take to your vets?

x.

Thanks, he has seen the vet twice already. :) hes has a course of baytrill and is now on the second half (sort of) of his course of septrin, I also have loxicom handy incase he needs painkillers, vit C to top up if he gets poorly... we just about thought he was getting better now hes back to this again.

Keeping a carefull eye and assessing each day as it comes. If this course of septrin doesnt work its a urine culture next. (of the previous samples, the first had bacteria but no protien-ie blood, according to vet) the second had bacteria and a little protien however I have never seen blood in his urine and 2 of the cage sets on rotation are white/cream as well as all the coseys being cream.

How is Spice doing?

still making the noise when urinating, he has been given some painkillers today to hopefully take the edge off. However he is still eating and drinking and not loosing weight.

Marmite is making this same noise when he's in his cage, i've taken him to the vets and they can't find anything wrong with him :( he's been on baytril, painkillers a gut thing and still no luck :/

I thought it was just annoyance at first... but the fact that he makes it every time he urinates when hes with me has me suspecting. I guess its just a case of keeping an eye and seeing how we go.

Has he had an ultra sound or xray to see if his bladder-lining is inflamed?

My piggy doens't make it EVERY time he urinates it's just every now and then. after a week on baytril nothings changed i'm quite lucky to be off ill and able to keep an eye on him it's just the vets don't know what to do and are thinking it's dental when he has no problems eating it was just the medicine that put him off his food.

Spice has had an Xray (not sure who the question was directed at) and everything looked normal. :) I'm fairly confident in the abilities of my vets... its just the price thats a pain!
