I'm in a process of building a c &c cage for my babies and wonder if this is ok for 6 or 4 Guinea pigs I recently found 2 dumped at a park and had to bring them home. Trying to convince hubby if I can keep them. But is this big enough for 6. But if cant keep them will this be big enough for 4. My skinny pig is a male yes he is fixed rest are females.20200607_184829.webp20200607_135701.webp

Are we interrupting your skinny pig with something? 🙈

Have you sexed the two you found at the park?

Omg oops I didn't catch that I just seen him smelling them. Yes they are definitely girls I had to look also I cleaned them up too.

Six pigs require a 2x8, or a 20 grid cage. so a 5x5 for example. The one you have (3x3) is only enough for 2 piggies.

Did you quarantine the ones you found in the park or put them straight in? How long ago did you find them and when did you bond them to your four? It would be an idea to also put them on pregnancy watch just to make sure - you don’t know the circumstances they previously lived in

Is that cage the one they all live in permanently? If yes then you really need to get them a larger space ASAP. You can set up a secure play pen and give them access to it 24/7. If not, what size housing are they living in at the moment?

Lastly, diet is important. Pellets should be kept to one tablespoon for each piggy per day, not a constantly full bowl. Have a read of the link I’ve put below. It’s mainly for the girls that you rescued.

Otherwise welcome and we’d love to see more photos. Please also add your location to your profile.

Yes they are on pregnancy watch I had them in a cage next to my others and well they climbed in. Yes I took they out right after the picture was taken.Found them today. No I have temporary cages for mine since their c&c is coming in hopefully tomorrow fingers crossed the one I have shown is what I was putting together I do have a bit more panels. Ummm hmmm I'm currently living in a 2 bedroom apartment along with few other pets and I only have room left in my living room for them

So do your four live in another cage and not the one they were in for the photo? It’s better if you can put the two girls in a different room while you quarantine. This should be for 2-3 weeks as long as they’re over four months of age. If not then make sure they can’t escape and get in with the other four. Ideally they shouldn’t be housed next to them.

The space for four guinea pigs is 2x6 c&c, or 16 grids. So the one you were building won’t be enough for your four either I’m afraid.

Yes my 4 have their own cages. Have one those petsmart ones but I have attached playpens to give them more roaming room and to give them enough hideaways.

So do they all live together in the playpen/cage together or live separately and have floor time together?

Yes my current 4 the 4 I originally have..... my 3 girls and my male yes he's fixed they all have floor play together and cage/playpen together I kinda made it were the girls have one cage and my male his own but the play pens connects both together

I don't think so it is only 1 square bigger than the recommended space for 2 piggies. just for comparison my 2 boars have a 3x4 and a small upstairs area. I think it needs to be at least 2x8 (16 squares of floor space) or the equivalent for 6 pigs or 2x6 (12 squares of floor space) for 4 pigs but bigger is always better. have a look at this guide if you're unsure.
