Just seen two female guinea pigs for free on a 'free add site' so I have messaged them and advised them to join this forum and try to rehome them that way .I really worry when any animal is advertised for free.Do you feel the same?

I do feel the same. I have messages people before telling them of the dangers and to use a rescue. I hope they take your advice.

These looked really well looked after as well would hate them to fall in the wrong hands

Without actually posting the link to this ad is it possible that you could message these people if they don't want to join the forum you could advise them of their closest recommended rescue. You can use the forum's rescue locator to find the nearest one. It is really heart breaking when you read these ads as more and more people are choosing to use them.

Lisa & Ali..x

Wish I had thought of that! I have just phoned them apparently there is a lady going to see them at twelve tomorrow if she does not turn up they promised to phone me so we can have them.I thought even if we can not keep them we could have them vet checked and try and rehome them on here.

Oh and of course if we got them and could not rehome them they would join our happy little home.

Hi Nicky, what a kindness you are doing for those piggies, I will keep my finger's crossed that all goes well. Keep us informed.

A little update the man phoned me and said they have gone to a really nice lady. Hope they have a happy life,I thought it was good of the man to let me know. Then another dilemma came along a neighbour mentioned a while ago that a local pet shop had a lone male in (this is the place my husband got our first guinea from, our wonderful Edward) It must have been a few weeks ago but to be honest I do not go in as they are very nice but seem to give advice from the 80s.well today she told me they still have him but he is OK as they have put him with the rabbits! I really want to go and get him but the trouble is I am thinking once again with my hart not my head.please talk some sense into me!

Maybe you should talk to the pet shop? Let them know it's not safe for them too be with the rabbits!

Completely understand what you mean about wanting too save all of the piggies!:(

Its really strange we have always been soft when it comes to animals thats how we got our dog some of our budgies etc but with guineas i could go mad. They say you cant save them all.No but we can try.

We have tried before to talk to the pet shop but because they have been going for twenty odd years will not listen and will not update. When my husband got Edward they never even mentioned hay and the cage they recommended for him was tiny.Luckily my husband refused to buy it and we got him a bigger one.

It's so sad that pet shops just don't know :(

I hope that little piggie will be okay!

Pet shops never listen to advice, they think everything they do is okay :(

i am like you but with all animals. There was a lone boar in pets at home and a lone very frightened rat.Want to get both but not feasible.Doesnt stop me stressing about them though.I came home with 5 gerbils one day because the pet shop was going to get them put to sleep.,Various other animals have passed through my home .St one point i had 32 animals, the majority of them unwanted pets that people asked me or my kids to take on

Aww you're like an animal guardian angel :inn:
I'm forever trying to smuggle rescue pets into the house but the mean OH catches on and tells me off. Apparently, we hoomans need room too. :(

It is hard over the years we have had a lot of other peoples unwanted pets or ones we felt sorry for.I think I may have to get rid of my spare cage to stop the
temptation.
