Hello everyone

My guineapigs have been bar chewing for a while. It's gotten so bad that I am worried about their teeth and now the newest piggie is picking up the bad habits. He hasn't properly started yet but I don't want him to follow suite.

My mother found this stuff and told
Me to use it but I am unsure if it's safe for Guinea pigs because it is aimed towards dogs. Would this be okay to spray on their cage bars?

If not does anyone have any alternatives. Thanks!

I've found that my pigs will chew the bars for 2 reasons, 1) boredom 2) they're trying to get at one of the other pigs/food.

When I had two of my pigs separated because of fighting I covered the cage bars (C&C grids) with a piece of perspex as he chewed non stop and I was worried about him breaking his teeth.. They could still see each other but not get at the bars.

I wouldn't use any product like that. We'd need to see the ingredients but I don't think I would use it either way. Piggies can be quite delicate.

Recently someone was asking how to stop bar chewing, and we worked out that they fed the pigs through the bars. It encourages them to stand up and chew the bars as they associate it with food.

If you can, give them more things to do in the cage. Add in some cardboard tubes filled with hay. or some paper bags.

If you can, increase the size of the cage so they can have more space to wander and zoom around.

Thank you but I know why they do it. They do it only for vegetables. It's not to do with boredom or cage size as they have plenty of both. They only do it when I walk on the room for vegetable time. That's why I need to find a solution.

I actually lay a long piece of fleece over the bars in the area that my pigs chew the most when they beg for treats. They still chew but at least it's not as harsh on their mouths

Thats a good idea. I do have some fleece that I bought so I'll try that. How do you hold it on? Clips?

sometimes my boars bit the bars because they are not satisfied with there wives and are trying to get to the other wives in the opposite cage!:lol!:

My boars have no idea of my sow luckily. She's not anywhere near them. :))

If I lay it all the way my c&c grid I use binder clips
Thank you :)
