Is this the famous C&G stuff?

Hi

I've not long built myself a C&C cage and looking at the sizes of the cubes on the one you have linked I think it maybe too small.

I got mine from a company called Robert May, they are shop fitters in London.
You can buy a pack of 17 grids with 20 connectors for £22.00 plus postage.

Each grid is 14inches square so you could make a nice big cage for your 2 piggies.

I have built mine 5 grids long and 2 grids wide, making a 6ft long C&C cage by 28 inches wide, it's a lovely size for my 3 piggies.

I hope this helps :)

Hiya

Just to add, the website for Robert May is shopfittingsonline.co.uk and it's called Wire Mini Grid Complete Set.

Happy Building:)

This is the one - these are the same grids as you get in Costco - but there are 10 grids and 6 mesh grids in the pack.

I bought mine from Costco last year, but have just bought another 4 sets from a seller on ebay. They are very strong and make a great cage. I am using my new grids to make a corrall, and in case I need to alter my cage later. They also make great storage units :(|)

The amazon ones do not look to be suitable to me - the grids I got are 14 inches (35.5 cm) square and the amazon ones are 20cm x 36cm and are plastic panels.

You can get cubes easily on Ebay - but watch out for the P+P - I got 4 boxes with P+P of £7 for the lot but I haven't found another seller that does such low P+P for multiple boxes - if you only want one box and don't mind getting mesh as well the Ebay cubes are good. Otherwise Robert May could be your best bet.

I was going to get my cubes from Robert may last summer when I started the cage building, but then I found them at Costco.

If you are near a Costco and have membership it is worth asking if they have any in stock - Leeds does not but I have heard that some Costcos have the cubes - they are exactly the smae as the Ebay Ones - "Seville 4 Cube Mesh and Grid System"

Hope this helps :)

For 4 pigs you need 6 x 2 cubes so that's 28 grids (if my maths is correct). After I made hay racks and stuff with the cubes I needed 2 boxes.

I've just ordered mine from Robert May too, after seeing the link on here. Can you remember how long it took for them to deliver? I can't wait to move my three out of their cage into a really nice, spacious area with vetbed. So excited.

Hi

If I remember rightly they came within about 3 days, it was quick, you should definitely have them by the end of the week.

What are you putting in the bottom? are you using correx?
:)

6 grids long and 2 grids wide, but personally i would go with 3 wide for 4 piggies. also, i haven't used any grids for the bottom of any of my cages,if you don't you would only need 16 grids.

Hi Natalie

If you go with 6 grids long and 2 grids wide and the grids are 14inches square, like the ones from Robert May, then you will have a 7ft long by 2ft 4" wide C&C cage.

Thats a lovely big cage, if you make it 3 grids wide it will be 3ft 5" wide.

Thats a great size cage if you have the room and perfect for 4 piggies I would say.
:)

also forgot to mention, if you go with 6 grids long and 2 grids wide you will need 16 grids in total and if you go with 3 grids wide you will need 18 grids in total.

If your ordering from Robert May I know their complete set has 17 grids so one set would be enough for 6 x 2, if you want to go bigger you'll need two sets.

Hope this helps

thanks guys, yes **** use correx for bottom, are there other materials that have been used before?

Hi

I was only thinking you would need a really large sheet of correx for a C&C cage that big.

I use correx but when I was researching the C&C cages I noticed some people used a sheet of vinyl flooring, which seemed like quite a good idea too, although not as rigid as correx.

Happy Building :)

This is really helpful thanks, I have only just adopted Gertie but am not happy with her indoor run so will make one of these for her.

Hi I have C and C grids but no Correx please advise me best place to buy thanks

Hi

I got my correx from a company called Vanliners.

I have a 6ft long x 2ft 4" wide C&C cage so I needed a really large piece of correx and most places I found the pieces were just not big enough and they only came in bulk, 5 sheets or more.

Vanliners sell it by the sheet, it costs £9.40 per sheet inc VAT.
They are located in Bolton so if you live in that area you can just go in and collect your order, but if you need it delivered, their delivery charge is £16.00.

The sheets are 10ft x 5ft x 6mm thick which is a great size if you have a big cage, they only do grey.

I bought one sheet, in total it cost £25.40 as I needed it delivered.

It was well worth it though. ;)

I've just bought some black 8 x 4 ft correx sheets from Travis Perkins for £4.15 + vat each. Downside is that they're only 2mm thick so I'm going to use double thickness, which means I need 3 sheets= £16 approx. As I live fairly locally they're delivering for free.
I tried all the local signmakers and the cheapest was £20 for the same sized piece but 4mm thick. I would need 2 sheets of this= £40, and I would have had to get it home on my own.

Hope that's helpful.

Wow, thats a good price, I think I might get another piece and replace the piece i've got.

6mm thick is good but if you wanted to cut it about abit, like for water bottles etc it's really hard.

:)

It came today. Very pleased. We have made it already, although we need to add levels etc to it yet and buy vetbed. Is there a way to add a picture without the URL address? Not sure how to do that!

Think I've worked out how to add a photo!

Hi

That was quick, your piggies home looks great, I like the way you have made the little hide bit.

What have used on the bottom?
;)

It's just a plastic backed travel rug at the moment, until the vetbed arrives. Going to order more panels and connectors to make an upstairs bit. What's correx?

Hello

Correx is corrugated plastic, it's used for estate agent boards, that sort of thing.

I use it as a base for my C&C cage, it's very versatile so you can cut/score it to make like a half box to fit into the inside of your cage, you then put your bedding inside there.

It's a bit hard to explain, have a look on www.guineapigcages.com they have some pics on there about how to make the bottom.

Its a great idea as a permanent base.
:)
