Hi i just got my new piggie Jessie yesterday. Seeing as she cam from a pet shop she probably didn't have much veg so have started her today with little bits together.

For her tea time i have mixed ina bowl of:

Tiny piece of shredded spring greens
piece of cucumber chopped into 2 pieces
2 small circles of carrot
1/2 a coli flower floret
1/2 a broccali floret
1 small piece of kiwi
and 2 tiny square pieces of honey dew melon.

So far she has eating both bits of melon so looks like a hit with her ;D

She also gets a hand full of mix in the morning whci i will start changing her gradually on a pellet as i noticed she picks out the flakes and leaves the rest ::)
She also has an unlimited supply of good quality hay stacked in toilet tubes which she enjoys playng with.

Is this an ok diet, and should i start increasing her veg more. Is the veg i gave her tonight good vit C as i did read they don't supply it themselves. Just making sure i do everything right as not to upset her stomach. If theres any other type of veg and fruit i can try her with please to tell :)

Personally I wouldn't give kiwi because of the seeds/pips :)

I would though reduce/change the variety throughtout the week - give her 2-3 now, not loads of variety, too much of a choice to begin with.

oh ok, she seems to have eating most of it, although i never see her come out pieces of veg just diapear :o ;D Will give her a selection of 3 tommorow, maybe 2 veg and a small piece of fruit :)

It's completely up to you :) It's just what I would do though - the more the choice, the pickier they become! ;)

Hey i think its best to give a good variety of fresh veg/fruit otherwise she wont want something if shes fussy and will only want what u started off giving her, so id say give her a good selection, it wont do any harm my boys have been on this since they were born and are healthy little boys, here a slection of what eat:

Cabbage
Carrots
Cucumber
Celery
Brocolli (they love the stalk)
cauliflower leaf, i dont give mine the flower part personally
bell peppers which are really high in vit c and the best for vit c boost, you can give a piece daily..red, green or yellow
baby sweetcorn
mangetout
peas in pod (mine go crazy for these)
kale, curly or plain (its a type of dark green cabbage)
parsnip (not too often)
apple (limit to a little piece every so often)
orange (in limited amounts, can cause sores on the lips, but high in vit c)
bannana (a little piece every so often)
there are lots more too..there is a shopping list somewhere on these boards

Thanks for the list. She seems to have tried and finished everything i gave her except kiwi and cauliflower. Will try a few more varities tommorow. Would orange, apple and other acidic type fruit be ok a small piece once a week ? Also how much mix should i be feeding her, a handful or unlimited.

Also if she doesn't seem to be drinking alot of water would she be getting enough from eating alot of cucumber as i hear it's mainly a water based veg :-\

hi yeah my girls aint big drinkers, never were so shes probably gaining water from her fresh stuff.

your fine doing that with the fruit too, i fill my boys food bowl of once a day to the top..so id just give her a cup full and see how she gets on, make sure the hay is unlimited though

Enough water from her veg :)

Be careful with the acidic foods as piggies are prone to mouth sores from them :)

Thanks for the advice. I've given her 1/2 a bowl of mix today but she seems to eat more hay and veg but i'll be slowley changing her to pellets to stop her selective eating. I'll only give an acidic fruit once or maybe twice a week as a special treat :)

yeah like kelly said i would only give her 2/3 diffrent veg each meal time so she is geting something diffrent each meal time
and dont warrry about her not drinking none of mine drink that much at all
i only fill my bowl up half with there mix there seem to eat better

but as she she is growing give her mmore bigger poisons of veg as i hae a 5month old male and 5 week old male who are in diffrent cages the 5 week old only eats 1/4 of what the 5 month old eats
