Bo is a spayed satin sow and she weighed 940g when she came to me in May at approx 1 year old. She is now 1319g and this has spiked dramatically in the last month from a roughly maintanence weight of 1150g. She is eating normal (possible a few nuggets more than the others) drinking normal but the weight concerns me.
The only other thing I notice is she has flakey red skin. She has had it for a while now, as has my other peru Harry. The other short haired piggies seem to me fine skin wise. I treated with nizorole twice and it made no difference and there is no hair loss or scratching so I decided it was maybe a Peru thing? Any thoughts?
Should I be concerned, I think I will be calling the vet and taking her and Harry over but can anyone think of anything that could cause weight gain to this extreme?

Unlimited hay maybe about 1-2kg changed daily, two bowls of nuggets between 5 and two bowls of veggies between 5. I did introduce a handful of readigrass per day which I have stoppped now. Her sister Jinty grew when I first got her as well. Thing is she's my loudest wheeker for food and first to be out at nugget refill time. The cage is 356cm long so I'm certain she has the opportunity to exercise.....however they all seem to eat sleep and poop and not much else. The do sleep in all different parts of the huge cage so at least they exercise that way. Also the snuggle corner is at the opposite end of the water hay and food so they have to walk to eat if they are in the snuggle zone.
Perhaps her metabolisim is very slow?

Forgive me if I've got this wrong - but she's put on approx 200g in a rather short time (< 6 months) whilst already fullly grown
as per your "spike" report ?

If so........ then NO! - this is not normal - the weight gain could be additional fluid accumulation from heart or kidney problems.

I would suggest heart probs are looked into first...easily sorted so please don;t worry too much atm...most important is to get a cavy savvy vet you can trust to prescribe the following:
a) fortekor 1mg/kg twice daily - a diuretic to gt rid of the excess fuis accumulation
b) frusemaide - a diureic to get rid of excess fluidi n lungs or abdomen - 2mg/kg

Oh cheryl youve paniced me now! I dont have my car at the moment as its in for an mot and cannot get to the vet! I have both of those meds but dont want to self prescribe. All the extra weight is hollow in sound like all my other piggies. Its around her bum as well and not squishy like theos 300g of fluid retention I witnessed and theres no pitting.
I wont be able to get to the vet until saturday. I got a PM from another spayed sow owner with a similar experience and she went to the vet when her piggie spiked to 1360g. The vet said weight gain post spaying is common like with cats dogs and humans having hysteroectomies. I will still get it checked out though.
