Is too much hay possible?

Hi. I purchased a bale of hay from a local farm this weekend and gave some to my piggies today and they absolutely love it. They have always eaten loads of hay but they really seem to enjoy this one so much better.

This may sound like a strange question but can piggies eat too much Hay and if so what would the symptoms be?

They have not stopped munching on it since i gave it to them!

my boys have been the same there was loads of hay in there yesterday but ive just come back today and loads have been eaten, as well as lots of their food, no wonder theyre big boys!
 
Sounds good - did you buy a a bale?

I don't think they can eat too much hay, i thought unlimited hay was what's best?
 
My girls always have hay in their toilet that they use for a bed.. but if theres not they tell us!
 
Yes, I brought a bale from our local farm - It was £4 for the bale which saves so much money compared to the pets at home hay that I was buying and my piggies seem to love it far more.

I have just put some more into their hutch and they were squeeking like nobody's business and grabbed it out of my hands !

I cant wait to weigh them at the end of this week - they would have piled the weight on if they carry on eating their hay like this !

£4 for a bale! that's awesome!

I don't think they can have too much hay - I like to make sure my piggys always have some hay in their houses :)

Lol! Our boys just LOVE hay. We give them some everytime they run out (which is about every 2days lol) One day we feed them a whole load, then the very next day its gone! =O
Silly boys, I think thats why they are so cuddle-able lol!
And I did hear, that unlimited hay was good, so I think they know when to stop...if they wanted! :p
 
From what i've read in guinea pig books and internet I have found they advise unlimited access to hay at all times..
so I'm guessing you can give them loads.
Mine love hay, they also absolutely love the hay cookies I buy for them from the pet store.:(|);)
 
I think, although it's unlikely with hay, it's possible to over-endulge in anything. I'm sure that isn't the case here, but I do think it's possible.
 
If they are eating so much hay that they are refusing their fresh veggies - then it is a problem. As long as they are still eating other things, then they'll just be pooping a lot more!
 
My girls have fresh meadow hay in their bed and living accommodation and Timothy hay in their hay rack. They eat both but most mornings, the hay rack is empty and plus they have eaten loads of their bed :))
 
My boys get as much hay as they want, I'm lucky though as i have a horse so i just bring the hay that i get for my horse home for them, saves me lots of pennies :))
