Insanely difficult to take a good picture of a black piggy. The flash is just too bright and without a flash it's a big blob. Sometimes it's very frustrating!

If you have an all black piggy how do you get your good pictures?

I tried a light back ground a dark background. Flash, no flash... UGH! Sometimes the picture works and sometimes not but it's frustrating.

In other news I saw the most gorgeous little Sow today at Petco ALL BLACK with... a white crest, the crest was the only thing that was white it was AMAZING!

She looked like this..

Oh! Wow! Isn't she STUNNING! I love that crest! That is a good photo but it is really hard getting a photo of a black guinea in some lightings! What is her name? I might have to guinea-nap her!rolleyes
I look forward to see more photos of her:)

In low light, you need a good light source behind you, lighting up the piggy, and no flash :) Or take them outside and go for it in natural light. I have the same issues having a dog with a black head :))

I didn't bring her home :( sher it's still popping away in the pet store she was just so cute!

could you not use a light coloured bed sheet and cover a chair/sofa so the flooring and background are lighter than your pig. try this in a well lit room and then just see what comes out best? you may need to use a desk lamp or two either side for extra lighting? i think as long as your back ground and floor cover are lighter than your pig then the rest for lighting/with or without flash is just trial and error dependant on your room and the natural light source in it.

just a thought! x

I had the same problem with one of my black guinea pig's she looked at bit like a blob, I have a really beautiful picture of her that was taken outside with my dads very expensive camera. Of course if you're not able to stage a photo shoot outside with a very expensive camera, place said pig next to something light and bright, with my guinea pig for indoor shots her husband came in very handy as he was black and white.

I think the brightness does something technical and makes the accompanying black clearer and you can see its not a shoe but a guinea pig. I know nothing about cameras or photography as you can tell :P

I have used the light colored back ground and flooring and the lighting in my apartment just sucks. It is basically nonexistent. But I am certainly going to keep at it lol Thanks for all the helpful tips and whatnot :(|)

I have the exact same problem.
When I try to take a picture of Romano, you can't see his eyes and you can't tell what part is his head and what part is his bum. It's even worse as he's a long haired guinea pig so he's just a black bundle of hair. xD;

When I use flash his eyes then show up but they are red. I want them to be the black colour they are.

I feel your pain. Marmite is not good to photograph, especially as most of my other pigs have lots of white on them, she seems to blend into the background sometimes :(

I try and keep her on a light background and in sunshine if possible. The flash just washes her out completely

Hi

I've been struggling with this problem for ages too! The only good photos I've managed to take of a black piggy were outside in the sun - with no flash going off. When I use a flash, the pig comes out almost white. Very strange and frustrating!

These pictures are AWESOME! What a beautiful piggy!

OMG THAT PIGGLY OF YOURS IS SO DARN CUTE. And a crested as well. Id looove a crested piggly.
I have a mainly black with caramel stripes. I find taking piccis outside in the garden is the best with Bumble. Still a though.

I have had similar trouble with my darkest piggy Rum. As others have said light background and lighting are the key. I just make sure I take advantage of any sun that shines indoors.
Here are some of my best indoor shots

I meant to mention - I've sometimes taken good shots in our conservatory on a sunny day - not sure if you've got a conservatory but choosing your lightest room on a sunny day might help!
