Four of my five piggies are on medication.

I have Christian and Meg on long term Metacam as they both have arthritis in their spines. Christian is on 0.5ml twice a day and Meg is on 0.3ml twice a day.

Dennis has a URI and is on 0.3ml Metacam and 0.31ml of Sulfatrim twice a day. He also goes in the nebuliser box twice a day.

Patsy has a horrendous UTI and is on 0.25ml Metacam and 0.3ml Baytril twice a day.

Can I go and lie down in a darkened room with copious amounts of wine please? (but only after the correct dosage of medication has been given to the correct piggie!)

I'm afraid sometimes it just goes like this :(. If all the piggies are a similar age you tend to get similar ageing issues plus the inevitable hay pokes, URIs, UTIs and other delights. So sorry that you are having such a bad run of it at the moment. Hugs xx

Definitely have some wine once the meds have been done. Sorry your piggies are poorly. sending them healing vibes and big hugs for you.

Oops! Just realised you said that C&M are on Metacam long term, so they obviously aren't going to 'recover soon'. But I still hope Dennis and Patsy do!

So sorry you are going through this @Betsy it is probably because you are such a brilliant piggy mummy and you have kept all your piggies in such fine fettle for so many years that they are all just unfortunately hitting an age and winter related bad patch... but hopefully things will stabilise and they've still all got a long happy time with you yet, do make sure you medicate yourself with a big glass of wine once the piggy meds are done! X

i love giving medication and looking after poorly guinea pigs and people...... I'm mad ! I'm sorry you have so many poorly piggies simualtanously .

Well Eileen caring is in your blood - you were a nurse and you just can't switch off caring for living things human or animal just because you've retired.

I hope all piggies who can, will be recovered soon! Its hard isn't it, wishing you a nice, big glass of wine in your very bear future :)

You’re doing an amazing job as a Piggie Mum ! No wonder you’re tired etc tho ! Sending much love and healing hugs to you all 🥰

I am very sorry that you are having such a tough time. I hope that you get your two acutely ill ones through it. These things are like London buses - at one point you feel like hospital but in the long run that is balanced by times of calm.

Hang on in there, you will get through this!

Patsy is my immediate concern. The vet is worried about her too. Especially the huge amount of weight she's lost in 9 weeks which is 200g.

I’m sorry about your piggy pileup. Hopefully it will ease up soon, and you find what (of anything) is going on with pretty Patsy.

Sending lots of hugs and healing vibes Jackie! It's hard enough when one is poorly let alone more!

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time  . We never mention how much is in the "Pigmergency" fund in this house, because as soon as we do it's a spate of vet trips. As others have said, you are a fantastic Piggy Mummy and while I'm not sure your pigs are thankful for the medication regime, they definitely appreciate feeling better!

I recommend putting wine on the medication chart for yourself! Don't forget, we are always here to talk to if you get overwhelmed, frustrated, or just upset there's no break, we have all been through it at one time or another.
