Hi

I have an 11 month old piggy. He took a trip 4 weeks ago to the vets and was treated for ear mites because he was shaking his head a twitching. It got a little better with only a little twitch a couple of times a day.

The past 2 weeks I have been suffering from an intense itching on my body. I went away to visit family for a few days over the half term (hubby stayed at home with piggie) I returned home yesterday and the itching got so bad last night that I took an antihistamine.

I have just held my piggie and come out in a bright red rash with blisters in lines all over my chest (where piggie was sitting). Picture attached. I've held him before now and this has never happened.

Am I allergic to my piggie or has he got something that has attacked me?!

Please help.

You may be developing an allergy to guinea pigs. It is most of then urine, which is being sprayed all over the fur.

I used to get like this with my long haired coronet piggy but never with any of the other 5 short haired that iv owned.

With mallow the coronet I used to just put her on my tummy and lap instead of my chest, and if she wanted up there I put a blanket over my shoulder. I found it calms down pretty quickly and didn't bother me that much. X

OK.

That's said, the night time comes around and I start to itch like nobody's business. It's been horrid.

The piggie is also itching more so than before.

I also am allergic to my guineas. When cleaning them out I sneeze a lot because of the urine. Also when I hold them I get rashes over me so now I use a towel and it's a lot easier.
