My pigs, specificallySam, have been itching quite alot recently. I'm not sure if its just a genral itch or not? Mainly around the head and middle area. I'm worried incase its hay mites as i use the same hay for my gerbils as i do Guinea pigs and obviously its harder to treat, as they are so little. (I havnt notice the gerbils scratching thought) anyway, do you think i should bath my guinea pigs and see if that helps as they have never had a bath as most people say it is unessicary? Also I'm not sure if its due to itching but i noticed a little bald patch on Sams chin. I've been putting Sudo cream on it and it doesn't look red or sore at all. (This was when the Guinea pigs were outside i noticed this and today i moved them inside for the winter) xx

The patch of hair missing could be the sign of a fungal infection along with the itching.I would get him checked over with a vet. Hay mites do not cause itching as they are not blood suckers.

Ooh okay :) ill try book him one soon. Oh really, i didnt know that :) thankyou. Xx

It is most likely that yours have mange mites; in some cases it can be a fungal problem in the same area which can start with very similar symptoms. Please have them checked by a vet, as the treatment is different.

In the case of invisible mange mites, you will need a higher dosed ivermectin product than you can get in pet shops and you will need to treat both 3 times, spaced 1-2 weeks apart, depending on what product is used.

Okay. The guinea pigs cage is now inside but i gave it a thorough clean with disinfectant and a hose so that should help. I shall ask my parents now about the vets :)
Thankyou so much.
