Junior Guinea Pig
I took my Guinea to the vet yesterday after a week of watching my male chewing his hind legs a lot this week. He bites at his inner thigh area, clearly he is uncomfortable. I bathed him but that did not help. The vet did not see anything but gave us Selamectin ( liquid placed between his shoulder blades every three weeks for 3 treatments) to treat for mites and an over the counter jock itch cream in case it is a fungus.
The vet said his scrotum looked 'dry' and I am to put the fungal cream on that area as well as where I see him biting/itching.
We never got a 100% on diagnosis so we are doing both treatments and hoping for the best. Vet also recommended I get a mild guinea pig shampoo and was his rear legs, butt area every few days to keep it clean from his saliva and the fungus cream. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I am open to trying new things and learing. And yes looking for a mild/all natural shampoo.
Thank you!

It would be better to start your own thread about yourself piggy. I don’t know about washing the piggy every few days. They keep themselves clean and should only really need washing if their bum is really dirty. Washing too often can also strip their skin of the essential oils.PennyCopper said:
Hi, I see this post was Tuesday but there is no date. I assume it is this past Tuesday.
I took my Guinea to the vet yesterday after a week of watching my male chewing on his hind legs a lot this week. He bites at his inner thigh area, clearly he is uncomfortable. I bathed him but that did not help. Plus I notice like you said, dry, I also notice 'white flakes' in his fur.
The vet was not 100% on diagnosis so we have to do both treatments and hope for the best. She also recommended I get a mild guinea pig shampoo and was his rear legs, butt area every few days to keep it clean. If you all learn of anything else keep posting, this site is wonderful. If I get any new info I will pass along too.
