The other day I noticed some dandruffy flakes on my piggy. There’s no bald patches anywhere/visable lice/red irritated mite looking skin (I’ve thoroughly checked her all over much to her annoyance), just black and white peppered flakes through her fur.

Anything I can do to make her more confortable and less scratchy? (I've got some normal gp shampoo thing, which I'm going to use as soon as I can catch the pig...)

My oldest piggy of 1 year has been 'diagnosed' with Mange by the vet. He has alot of dandruff and a few scabby spots. Best to take her to the vets just to make sure.

One of my babies has a little dandruff which is worrying me, so both of them are going up the vets on Wednesday to be checked over.

I don't believe piggies are meant to have dandruff.

this is a pic of the bits of flakes from her fur

My Tim has the same. No scabs or anything anywhere, but all that dead skin and a fair amount of loose hair. He had treatment for mites not so long ago, but the symptoms came back soon after, my thought is he may be getting mites or something from the hay. Bathing seems to temporarily help. If you get a diagnosis let me know ;)

ah yeh mines always moulting, i thought maybe thats why shes been itchy before..

hmm, she hasnt got any other symptoms of mites/ringworm.. i guess maybe an allergy, but thats going to be hard to find out.

guess its going to be a diagnosis of exclusion! treat for one thing at a time and see if it works. first a bath and some xeno450, see how we go from there..

Sexy my first guinea pig had exactly the same all through his life and he was regularly treated for mites and lice so I'm not sure why he had it, I always used to call it his dandruff lol.

I know its been a while since this post and I still havent figured out whats wrong, but I was chatting to a vet who said it may be some sort of seborrheic dermatitis and suggested some malaseb shampoo.
Havent tried it yet, but if I get hold of some i'll let you guys know how it goes.
