Esme has been on cystease for a while now for her cystitis and she seems to have not had another episode for a while. She is very good at taking her medicine and will come to the bars to have it. We are also trying Rosie with a little bit for the short term to see if it makes any improvement to her arthritis and bunny hopping. Only problem is, in all of her 6.5 years she has never had to have any oral medicine so she doesn't associate a syringe with anything yucky, but also doesn't associate it with anything nice, so my brainwave was to break the little pointed end off a banana and mix it into the mixture. She loved it and kept coming back for more.

Ooh, this smells yummy!

I know obviously I can't use banana all the time but at least it gets her used to the syringe.

What a good girl she is!

I had a 40 minute fight trying to get my Gilbert to take his medicine. I put his cystease on his cucumber and he eats it that way. But my medicine that needs to go in by his syringe he puts up a fight.

I'll have to try your way of dipping it in banana first or some other veg and see if that helps him.

For the first few times Esme had hers, she had about 0.95ml water and a literally one drop of blackcurrant juice from the syringe. She will now mostly have it with just water but sometimes if she is being very stubborn I will give in and give her a drop of blackcurrant again.
Ruby on the other hand will come over and try and steal Esme's syringe, whether it be water/ blackcurrant etc. Ruby has also been a little squealy today when touching her tummy/ bladder area , so has had a little bit of cystese too. I'm hoping it is just a one off, and it was maybe something else. My Mum is keeping an eye on her over the next few days to see how she goes as she doesn't have any symptoms. Funny thing is, I checked her over when I got back from my Nans today and there was no squeaking when she was being gently poked and her tummy touched.
Fingers crossed!

Edit: This is Ruby after I had checked her for the second time.

Aww bless her.

I think I'll have to try your technique. Anything to make it easier and less stressful on me and Gil.

Thank you. :)

Awww, bless Rosie drool x) Hope the cystease helps.
We are currently cysteasing in our house too and it is going down a treat and seems to be working.

Love snuggly Ruby pigture, I spy a little Chooken leg x) x)

Nerys adores her cystease and will come to the grids whenever I call her - and then try and snatch the syringe away from to me to get even more out of it! :))

That's a great idea. Then she will take the medicine thinking it will always be something tasty. Why didn't I think of that. lol

I wish all my piggies were as eager to take their meds. Esme was trained to come to the front when she was on metacam- of course metacam is yummy and she would try and steal the syringe.
Sometimes though I just think she wants to be stubborn, she just sits and watches me rattling the syringe on the wire and doesn't move. rolleyes

Awwww bless them, such good girls taking their meds, wishing them both a speedy recovery and lots of well wishes and huggles from me and the furry broodx x
