Hey all

Well today i took the girls to the vets again because we noticed CoCo had white powdery flaking skin in a patch on both ears and Angels foot was swollen with tender looking pink skin.
The vet thinks Angel still has some kind of infection (previous visit showed they had URI's) which was making her foot swell and gave me some more AB's for her.
He also took some hairs from both and they are being sent away to be tested for ringworm.:(

I feel so sorry for my girls as we've only had them just under three weeks and this is their second visit bless them. We're trying to get them comfortable with us and then we take them to the mean vets!
They generally seem ok, popcorning about their cage and munching but i worry so much about them(i dont think i've slept well since we got them lol).

I just want them to be happy and healthy.

Has anyone had to go through something similar?

Sorry to be such a downer, i'm a big worrywort.

I've had one of my guys at the vets for a random illness lately, luckily nothing serious, well, not serious enough to stop him gaining weight every time I weigh him!

You say you haven't had them long, where did you get them from?

You're obviously doing the right thing in taking them to the vet, and by treating them, hopefully all this will clear up (sounds like they came to you with it!) and then you'll have the happy and healthy pigs that you want (although it sounds like you already have the happy thing sorted :)))

As for worrying - it's a piggies job to make you worry - you wouldn't be a REAL piggy mum if you didn't worry :))

I don't have any experience with anything like ringworm, but others will and will give their input. What I would say, is that hygiene is paramount with a fungal infection, you don't want to reinfect, or catch it yourself! A good disinfectant and hygiene will keep on top of it. I'm fairly sure it does fungus, but I'm not 100% sure, I'll check, but I always use the F10 products. I get them from here, they're always really reasonable on price and usually have some kind of offer on! http://www.reptiles.swelluk.com/reptile-supplies/reptile-f10-disinfectant-range-1389.html

Edit: Just checked my bottle - F10 does bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores :)

They are unfortunitly P@H piggies. We did alot of research before we got them or atleast we thought we had but we truelly did not know or understand about P@H. Since joining here we've been absolutely horrified hearing about them and wish we had know better(although we love our girls and wouldnt change them).

Thank you for all the information and for being so helpful, you've really helped put my mind at ease. I will be looking more into the products you linked and hopefully getting some soon.

I know money isn't as important as their health, but are P@H refunding your vets bills?

They payed for the last bill and i'll be taking this next bill to them aswell. I guess they are atleast good this way. I just wish the girls didnt have to go through this at all.

Also does anyone know if ringworm can be passed to a dog from the girls? I do wash my hands regularly but mind my mum's dog on tuesdays and thursdays. If its even possible to pass it on i need to know as he's getting on in years and is an epileptic which can cause issues.

Any info would be great.

Thanks i'll look into that! :D

I started dabbing just a tiny smidge of vasiline on CoCo's ears on monday as she looked so uncomfortable. Since then the marks have been fading and today are almost gone! I'm starting to doubt this is ringworm(hoping really) because i don't think it should clear up with a tiny touch of vasiline!

Anyone have any ideas about this? Because i'm completely confused lol.

*Update*

The vet rang with the test results today and as it turns out CoCo is clear for ringworm but poor Angel isn't! :( Going to the vets in the afternoon to get treatment sorted.

Just wanted to say to all who replyed, thank you for your helpful information and kind words. *mucho hugs*

Awww poor thing, hope she gets well soon.
