After a little more than a month on her own (and the odd set back) I'm very happy to say we have finally got more piggies to go in with Miss Piggy and not just one more like we had first planned but three more. We got them from a rescue and I'm not joking I was literally in heaven :(|) so many Guinea pigs, bunnies and even a couple of kittens. The lady was lovely and even though she had quite a few other people in at the same time as us she talked us through all the possible Guinea Pigs we could take home (less dominant so there wouldn't be too much mounting with Miss Piggy who has a strange spine- or in the ladie's words is a bit of a weirdo XD ). And then whilst she was with the other people said we were free to look around and handle any of the pigs drool.

We ended up going with another older pig (not sure of her age) and two babies because my mum loves baby Guinea pigs. The original plan was to put the older new pig with Miss Piggy in the newly built C&C and then put the babies in the old cage but seeing as they had all be getting in quite well and there wasn't a reason not to we decided to try them into together. Other than a slightly bossy pig and the little boy wanting to mount the girls almost constantly everything is going pretty well.

So here are the new piggies they don't have names yet but we're working on it:

The teddy girl:

She is a bit older, possibly 2? Can't remember what the lady said about how she got there.

The little man:

He was born in the rescue and will be 8 weeks tomorrow.

And finally the little baby girl:

She was one of 40 dumped and caught in a forest, seeing as the rest of the girls she came with were older pure breeds it is believed they are from a show breeder. She was the only baby dumped because you may notice from the pictures she is a little bit disabled. Her front left paw was broken and has now fused permanently making her a special pig. She is perfectly happy though and moves as if everything is normal.

And Miss Piggy just so she doesn't feel left out:

She's doing pretty well with the new arrivals and seems to enjoy the company. I literally haven't heard her squeak so much in ages, not sure if that is bad or good lol.

Well they are my new (and old) piggies. So pleased it ended up working out like this as I am totally in love and have hardly stopped watching them since we got them home.

I'm guessing that little boy isn't neutered - you should not put him with the girls they can breed from as young as 3 weeks. Please remove the boy asap!

They are all gorgeous x) but I can't understand why the woman would give you an 8 week old boy to go with girls.

aww what gorgeous pigs x) I still can't beleive people can just dump them off like that

Oh god no of course he is neutered, 2 weeks ago actually so it was pretty much perfect timing. She had them early neutered because the three brothers were already starting to bicker when they were separated from mum so it was obvious they would need to be separated and out with girls soonish.

What age where they neutered at - he is tiny?

Exactly what I was thinking, they are so lovely temperament wise as well x). She had loads of stories about how all the animals had got there, a litter of rabbits had just been left behind after the people had moved out so the new tenants brought them in 8... How people can be so cold I don't know :/.

If a pig is neutered you have to wait 4 - 6 weeks to introduce him to ladies. I'm not being funny but he would have to be done at 4 weeks which just seems insane. Does he have any stitches just now?

I know most vets will not neuter until a pig is 6 months old. Even dogs and cats they won't neuter at that age. His testicles wouldn't even have dropped.

I'd be keeping an eye out for any complications, I'm sorry to put a damper on your new arrivals. I just can't believe someone would neuter at 6 weeks.

If he is eight weeks old and was neutered two weeks ago he would have been neutered at 6 weeks old... No vet in their right mind would neuter a guinea pig that young, surely? I thought that the minimum was 4-6 months or 600g in weight (I might be wrong there but it's something similar to that I believe). A 6 week old would weigh more like half of that, slightly more.

I'd be very cautious with him; I definitely would not be convinced that he actually has been neutered and males can still impregnate a female up to 4 (some say keep away from girls for 6 weeks to be safe) weeks post op. He's not 'safe' to be with females yet.

They are all gorgeous piggies but I cannot help sharing the same concerns as Flintstones...

Do you have any idea who did the neutering might be worthwhile phoning and asking if they actually did it.

My thoughts exactly - if he's 8wks old then he would have had to of been neutered (for him to be 'safe' around your girls) at 4wks old! There is no way any vet would neuter a 4-6wk old pig!

My Wexford was considered 'an early neuter' but he was 12wks old as i recall and was quite large and so the vet was happy for him to be neutered.. 2wks post op you'd see his stitches - is there any stitching?

I would double check his age and dates he was neutered - in the meantime i would remove him from your other girls - 3 girl pregnancies would see one heck of a baby boom!

Awwww they are all super cute :)

As already said best to check out that neutering took place and take the obvious precautions in the meantime including giving it time to work properly if it was done to save any risks to the rest.

But yeah all gorgeous piggles you have there :))

x

They're all lovely but again, no reputable vet practice would neuter a boar at such a young age.

Sorry just had to walk the dog.

I'm starting to think she may have got/ calculated the dates wrong (or i wasn't listening properly lol) because looking at the website it said he was 8 weeks 3 and a half weeks ago (he is also the same size as the girl who is suppose to be a couple of months older than him). I don't know why she had him neutered so young but she was definatly no newbie to rescuing and knew crazy amounts about Guinea pigs and their care so I'm taking it she has her reasons. It also sounded like it was common practise for her to neuter baby boys born there pretty young. She checked for the stitching whilst we were there and said it looks like it has fully dissolved and I've just checked now and I can't see any but can see a little line which I'm pretty sure is a scar. I'll take a look on the website and see if they say which vet they use and give them a call if they do. From seeing some of the special needs pigs and the things they had told her to do/ what they had done they do seem to be a pretty guinea savvy place.

Thank you all for helping and caring I will be keeping a very keen eye on him for both signs of problems from having an early neuter and still being able to have babies and then give hell if problems occur from either side. She had a lot of experience and I've heard a lot of good things from people who know her or have adopted from her in the past so I'm pretty confident that she knew what she was doing.

Which rescue was it?

8wks is still very young to have a boar neutered :{ - can you weigh him and post his weight here - peoplke might then be able to judge hid 'proper' age for you. the general advice is 4-6wks wait post op until putting a neutered boy in with a girl - so he'd still be too early to be 'safe' anyhow..... even if he was neutered that young there is still a small possibility that he's fertile

*puts her anatomist hat on*

There's a ridge of tissue (raphe) that extends from the anus to the perineum in males and females (perineal raphe), but in the male, this extends over the perineum to the scrotum - this is the scrotal raphe. It's basically the "join" where the two halves of the embryo come together during development. This *could* be the line that you're seeing. It would certainly resemble a scar. It's usually slightly paler in colour compared to the skin tone, and slightly raised with a "puckered" appearance.

Not sure if I got all that but no I don't think that's what I'm looking at. It's a small line maybe a little bigger than a cm long (not fully sure as I've put him back in and don't really wanna keep getting him out) above the whole penis/ anal area, if that makes sense. None of the girls have this line either.

Have you separated him yet? Not meaning to worry you but he sounds far too young to have been neutered - and if he had been neutered, based upon his age and the time passed since his op - he shouldn't be with any girls just yet anyway as he could still be fertile and able to 'do the deed'......

You have a couple of older girls in your herd (that could face huge complications if gotten pregnant) so i would be very cautious - better to be safe than sorry!

Which rescue did you get them from? do you have a website link?

Maybe instead of guessing and assuming (and also worrying) you could take some pictures of his bits - I'm sure just by looking the more experienced would be able to tell immediately if he'd been neutered or not!!

Firstly i have to say AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW x)x)x)

I do so hope all will be OK :{

if you are unsure start up a thread of their bits ") but so worth it.........

and apart from that.........

me soooooooo

WANTS TO PIGGIENAP drool;)
can't wait till you tell us their names xoxo

Gorgeous piggies! But yes, agreed, very concerned about the neutering, way too young and even so, he'll still be fertile now, I'd be ringing thevets if I were you. Also, just to add, my youngest is nearly 16 weeks and at 12 weeks he weighed just under 700g and his testicals hadn't fully dropped.

Hope the little guy is ok either way but would be a good idea to separate him for a while x

Ah ha - let us know when you are pignapping as this means Velvet and Onyx will be unattended! :(|):(|)

Been avoiding this thread but thought I might as well get everything updated.

Though we did separate the little man for a couple of hours we were soon left with a very sorry looking guy so I decided I would sit and work it out and see what the dates add up to. On the website on the 24th of July he was 8 weeks and had been neutered. We got them on the 21st of August so even if he had just been neutered on the 24th that still would have been 4 weeks since he'd been neutered. I also had a look at his man area and might have seen a scar (could be my eyes playing with me though) but defiantly no stitches and no balls either (though of course this could have also been because he is only young) and referring back to a thread I saw a little while ago he doesn't have man poop but little poops like the ladies. After a good think about both the chances of him being fertile and the problems taking him away from them would cause I decided to put him back in with the ladies. Though I understand there is probably still a small risk I have enough confidence in both my own decision and what the lady at the rescue said to have him back in there. I'm not gonna say which rescue it was as I don't want to bring any problems to a rescue that personally I though was amazing and was doing wonderful things for the Guinea pigs they took in, but I will say that the rescue has been recommended on here multiple times.

Everything is going really well with them everyone has settled in nicely and they are all getting on really well :). Have to admit though I never realized how much poo four Guinea pigs can make, like literally i do a poo clean come back 5 minuites later and there is poo everywhere :(|). The two babies have been put in there place quite a few times by both miss Piggy and the Teddy and the Teddy has defiantly decided she wants to be in charge. The little girl is an absolute nightmare when it comes to messing up the cage as she has found her new faviroute activity is playing hide and seek under the fleece lol. Miss Piggy is still a very happy girl and we've found that since the new guys have come the build up of eye crust on her eyes has almost totally disappered (she can't clean her eyes herself very well because of her dodgy structure).

Also wanted to add two out of the three now have names, the little girl is now called Lola and the little boy is called Forest. We're still thinking about the Teddy's name.

I just wanted to add a closer picture of Lola's funny leg as honestly I'm finding it so hard to believe that someone would rather have dumped her in pain from a badly broken leg in a forest than just have taken her to a vet or even have dropped her in a rescue. I mean most normal guinea pigs have little chance of survival in a forest so how they thought she'd be fine with only three good legs is well beyond me.

Should be adding more pictures soon :). Well that's it for now.
