It’s getting hot! Are you ready? 🥵

I feel for you. My bedroom is the same, it gets the sun in the afternoon and the evening. There's no cooling it down anymore, even airing it in the morning makes little difference. So far, I've managed to sleep with a fan on, but it's not a very restful kind of sleeping.

At the office, there are blinds but they're the cheap kind and on the inside, so they don't keep the sun from hitting the windows and the windows are huge. Nice in the winter, not so much in the summer. As it's May, my employer doesn't consider that it's hot yet. Heat related measures, such as distributing water or being allowed to leave half an hour earlier are for July and August, not June or September, no matter how hot it gets. 🙄🤷‍♀️

Enjoying the cooler days.
Has it cooled down where you are now @Helen C?

Wally decided to snooze on the (cold)stone under his water bottle last night, so I supplied him with a frozen pad instead, which he went to snooze on for 5mins. Random pig- room was 22C, and he hadn’t shown any interest earlier in the day. He’s acting totally normal for him apart from that strange moment last night.

We had a pretty warm night so the house didn't cool down much. The clouds are starting to form though, so we should get storms in the evening. It's still quite hot, but a lot more bearable than yesterday. (The girls had to take turns to enjoy their floortime in the living room. It was much too hot to put one of them in the kitchen as we usually do. They weren't impressed.)

They do enjoy their frozen cooler elements as well--they can climb on them and feel like they're keeping an eye on their slaves while refreshing their paws.

I give up.
I'm buying a portable AC unit for the girls. 🥵
Unfortunately, our lounge is too large for it to be effective but I don't blame you. Get an air mattress so you can camp in the room if needed as well.

Once you get night temperatures around 20 C or even 25 C, it is no longer fun. They already have those nights in Switzerland. :(

Sorry to hear the weather has forced your hand inbuying an AirCon unit @Helen C . I wanted to do a happyface for aircon & sad face that it’s come to that.

I keep looking at our weather forecast for the week ahead, and every time I look it’s predicting hotter. 🥵
I am in a new(ish) job and can no longer pop home during the day to check on our furry boys.
Been up since silly o clock this morning to help us stay cool.

Finally persuaded my OH it was time to buy a new fan. I actually walked into our already broken one in the dark & broke it a bit more!

In Belgium as well--we didn't even leave the windows open for the night. The humidity seemed almost... solid yesterday evening, like you were trying to breathe through a blanket. In May, it took a week for the house to get uncomfortably warm (thanks to the cooler nights). This time, 48 hours did it. I don't even want to imagine how they're dealing in the south of France.

The room where the piggies are is too large as well, but if the AC really can't do the job, we'll just split the room in two. In a pinch, hanging a blanket or an old curtain will do for a few days.

Also, I live with my mother and she's already exhausted two days in. She's always cold so she doesn't "feel" the heat but it's affecting her anyway. I hope the AC will help her too.

I'm torn because I know turning to AC will only hurt the climate more (and obviously, I'll keep working with shutters and sheets outside the windows, night airing, no cooking and so on) but well...

Fans are a godsend, I wouldn't survive a summer without them...

We have the first really HOT HOT day today but it will go on for at least a week. This night was also the first really warm night with temperatures just a little below 25°C.
Unfortunately, they opened a construction site under my windows on the street front this week and haven't finished yet.
So opening the windows in the early morning was not an option today. At least they won't work on the weekend and I hope they will be finished soon.

The heat is pushing across to the UK as well. We have been promised a full week with temperatures around or over 30 C and I would not be surprised if there was a new heat record in there somewhere as well. :(

Very sorry about the building site right under your window. I used to live next to a tram stop on a busy junction in Basel in Switzerland during the hot summers of the 80ies. Repairs in the summer holidays starting at 6 am on days when it got to 37/38 C were not fun, so I totally sympathise.

Moving to the UK had one big attraction - the moderate weather where the odd 30 C days in the summer made frontline news! Mostly, the UK had my ideal summer temperature range between 15-25 C when I feel most active and comfy. But that is sadly gone now. :(

just wondering if anyone has used one of these ‘plug in air coolers’ which essentially you put cold water / ice into and it sucks in hot air and then blows out the ‘misty’ cool air.. would this be an option in a shed? not sure if it would make things too humid?
Only just seen this. We have these, they are fantastic. The pigs VERY much appreciate their personal AC as do we in the other room.

Not cheap but well worth the money. Ours are black and decker, cost £80 but there's other brands too. You can run them without water but when it's really hot we add freezer blocks or ice to the water for extra cold.

I've folded and ordered an AC too! It's forcast to get to 37 here on Tuesday and not going to drop below 30 for 5 days in a row with tropical nights in between - I don't think id have any chance of keeping the house cool enough otherwise. It'll also help with me feeling anxious about the piggies overheating when i'm at work too.

Apparently we all need to move (back) to Scotland! Where It's rumoured to stay below 30°C or maybe even 25°.
Packing my bags to Scotland. It's a magnificent country and I've always wanted to come visit.

I keep stressing out, even though I know I'm lucky--it the AC isn't enough, I can still put the girls in the basement. There's natural light and some ventilation, though of course, it's going to be so hot that we'll only be able to open the door for a few hours each day.

The problem with AC is that I would need to keep it on for over a week without shutting it off. As soon as it's turned off, the temperature climbs back to its previous level. Which by the end of the week will probably be 29°C. (It's bliss when it's on, though).

I tend to keep my AC on all the time ( if ness) on low and minimum fan once it’s reached the right temp - it’s cheaper that way and maintains a cool room - worth trying

I was going to post about this, are there any tips you can recommend? I was worried about my piggies last time it was hot and one of them was really struggling. I had to give some cool cucumber and few drops of water on her ears etc.

How much can I get a AC unit for?

I just read Wibkes sticky on keeping them cool, very good post. I’ll take some of that onboard. Out of interest what AC units do you guys use? I might get one for the house anyhow, just some are extortionate prices

I can confirm it’s been a pleasant 20C here recently although it will climb up to 24/25C later in the week! We should have a forum camp out in my garden and we can let the piggies run free on the grass 😂 Hope everyone is coping with the heat down south. It sounds unbearable.

That sounds like a great idea. ❤️

I have mine fitted to an outside wall and they are a permanent fixture
They can be used to heat the room if my central heating broke down
It was about £1400 fully fitted ( for one unit)

You can get portable ones that have a tube that goes out of the window
I think they are about £250 +
Something like this
Portable Air Conditioner 12000 BTU Cooling Dehumidifier

It would be worth it as higher temperatures are here to stay

Our boys have taken over the floor- I extended the playpen & it’s now their permanent home for the week ahead. They both got a little confused last night when they stayed put & didn’t go back to their usual home.

I have a bedsheet for the car in hope it helps keep the car a little cooler for home time.

🔥🥵🔥

Thinking of everyone & everypig struggling with the heat this week.

Also put an old bathroom towel over the steering wheel so you can touch it and have an old bathing towel with you in a bag to use for the seat if needed. Those are lessons I learned while still living and working in Switzerland.

Hi guys, does anyone have experience with them window heat reflective films?
