People make enquiries about adopting piggies, sound all keen on the phone. I email them all the information including photos, biographies etc and then l hear nothing.
I would like to know one way or another if they are still interested and if not, what put them off.
Recently a couple of people complained about the adoption fees being too high, £20 a piggy, £30 for a neutered piggy. They get a healthy piggy with lifetime support, they are £25 each in PAH!
Rant over, but it is very hard keeping my cool sometimes!

Considering the cost per neuter the adoption fee is very CHEAP. I don't know what people honestly expect.

They are getting a HEALTHY pet, that is most definitely NOT pregnant if female for far lower than they would buy in a store. And of course most importantly they are giving a rescue piggy a much needed forever home!

Spot on! :tu:

Sorry you are feeling frustrated @pig in the city . The adoption fees are ridiculously low considering the reassurance you are getting a healthy pet with life time support.
I think you are quite within your rights to chase people for an answer but I suppose that takes time also. Not easy.
But at least there are some people out there who have as many BARC piggies as they can possibly squeeze in ;)

I know the feeling :/ They always sound so keen... I don't usually get the chance to mention a donation because they disappear before I can!
As soon as I send them the extra info they never get back to me. Poo :(
And it all takes time! So frustrating

Thankyou Laura, your support is much appreciated x

Oh Barbara, I'm so sorry for your frustration :(

Your adoption fee is more than reasonable. What do people expect?! For one, the cost of having a boy neutered, not forgetting the angst, stress and care given during recovery costs a lot more than what you ask.

Your offer of lifetime advise and support is invaluable in itself.

Sadly, I think this is common for most rescues as just after I adopted Edward, another rescue contacted me asking how much I paid as they had been accused of asking too much for neutered boars and they wondered if they really were being unreasonable.

If people aren't prepared to pay the asked adoption fee, they do not deserve the animal.

(((Hugs))) xx

How rude people are - to waste your time and not come back to you. If they only said they'd changed their minds for whatever reason or found another piggy elsewhere you'd understand.
The adoption fees are more than reasonable. So anyone objecting to the fee or unable to pay the fee shouldn't be taking on a piggy in any event.
I may be cynical but I think the world is full of time-wasters and it's got worse since there's so much digital information available. If you advertise anything for sale on the internet people contact you, say they will have it, then mess you around about collection times, expect you to be at their beck and call and then ask if you can drop the price and deliver it to them. Many's the time I've had a weekend ruined by folk not coming to collect items they have promised to collect - so much so we've decided to donate items rather than have the stress of dealing with the no-shows.
All you can say is at least your piggies aren't going to unreliable homes Barbara. If folk mess you around they aren't likely to be committed to the piggies' welfare in the long term

HUGS! It is the exasperating side of running a rescue - people that mess you around and stand you up, and expect you to give them your piggies on the cheap... :(

Unfortunately it seems common place that many people will approach rescues thinking that they are either 1. Doing you a favour by adopting 2. Getting a "sub quality" animal eg unwanted or neglected or 3. A mixture of both. I don't think they appreciate that even a check up at the vets with no treatment would make up the most of your adoption fee.

I don't think there is any solution either. The abuse cases and plight of animals in rescues need to be promoted to make people think twice and keep going to the rescues but will also cement the above ideals. I really hope you don't have to deal with this too often.

I'm sorry you have been let down.the fees are too reasonable, the support and care i have recieved has been invaluable. When i was struggling due to ill health you have helped. These persons are not worthy of your precious time.
Spot on! I was about to word something similar, but you hit the nail on the head x

Absolutely my thoughts Vicki. Two things put me off potential adopters, if their first question is how much is the adoption fee, and secondly if they want a piggy of a certain appearance. I would have thought, health, temperament and whether your piggy likes them is more important!
Someone asked me for a discount on a pair of piggies, l said if you can't afford the adoption fee you can't afford the piggies. We do sometimes reduce the fee if the piggy has known health problems, but usually these kind people insist on paying more and a donation as well!
I would rather wait for the right home but things are a bit slow on the rehoming front at the moment, lots of enquiries but nothing coming of them.

Yes, l have had people say they are doing me a favour adopting piggies, almost implying that l should pay them! Any piggies with significant health issues are not rehomed, they are given sanctuary here. We just have to keep spreading the rescue word!

Thankyou Eileen, much appreciated x

Thankyou everyone for your support and kind comments. I have been a bit disheartened recently with the rescue work and was thinking of becoming a sanctuary so that l didn't have to deal with idiots. However, l have decided to keep going for a bit longer and your support really helps. Plus a neighbour has been helping me with the cleaning a couple of times a week and l am getting a duke of Edinburgh student every Saturday afternoon for 6 months which is a wonderful help. Thankyou again piggy people! X

I know it can be disheartening (I know this from going over and over things with paid workers and they still can't get it right) but you have to remember who this benefits... Those piggies and adopters who know your service and appreciate it. Obviously you do need to look after yourself first and foremost but remember for every stupid idiot who calls you there's another person out there who truly understands and appreciates what you do

I am so sorry that you are feeling so disheartened but please do not let these morons get to you.

If it wasn't for you, I would have one very lonely Emma right now.

Your help and advise is invaluable and you are a lovely person.

I know that I am a huge worrier where my piggies are concerned, but that is down to my health problems and I do feel bad for that. But I love them dearly, they're family, they give me a routine and a reason to get up.

It makes me smile to see them getting along so well together and I hope living happy lives.

You should be very proud with what you do and I'm sure I'm not the only one to agree that you're an amazing person who has helped many piggies and their owners whether they have surrendered a piggy to you or whether they are an adoptee xx

I often think the adoption fee is too low and that piggies are invaluable! You can't truly put a price on those fluffs.

I have experienced the reverse with a rescue though - they just never replied to me so I gave up.

I think it is perfectly fine if someone says they would prefer to have long haired or short haired pigs as long as they say they truly don't mind and care more about the connection with the piggie, as long as they aren't too specific and threaten to go elsewhere. For example, I have always wanted a long hair piggie, and the rescue I took Oreo to for bonding had two long hair pigs. I chose the first one, who both my mum and I felt an immediate connection with (unlike the other piggies), and apparently they were super easy to bond and very well-matched (I am going to pick them up in about an hour).

I'm sorry that you are having a lot of annoying time wasters. I think people often think pigs are easy pets and that rescue standards are too high for them, so they go with the easy pet shop alternative, who don't care about where their animals go.
