I hope this isn't the stuff intended for hamsters. This poses a serious choking threat to all animals and is not something that should be sold let alone bought.

Nope its not that sort. I know what you mean.My mum used to use it for her hamster when she was young and it made her ill.
Its like little shretted bits of clothy stuff its hard to explain.. o_0 but its deffinatly not what you think it is. O0

. I did a search on here and found this one to be the best thread about winter and piggies.
I have four, two boys live in a huge rabbit cage, which i have draped with thick sleeping bags, they have two nice sized igloos which i have been putting extra straw and hay in. They both have vet bed with newspaper underneath their sleeping quarters.
The girls are in a big hutch, again i have draped a couple of sleeping bags over it.
They are in my out house which is connected to the kitchen and are out of the wind and rain, although my out house dosnt have a door on, i do feel it is a few degrees warmer then actually being outside and with the extra layers on their hutch and cage they do seem to be bearing up pretty well.
I have also noticed their coats have got a lot thicker the past week or two.
When i have picked them up they do feel warm, warm feet etc.
They do get alot of interaction with me, although they are in the out house, I'm in and there alot as my washing machine is there (its a big out house lol) they are often out for cuddles and for grooming.

I think it is also because of the temperature fluctuations too and the "dry damp" and excess humidity caused by the tumble dryer - of course none of this happens if the tumble dryer "exhaust pipe" leads straight outside through a sealed off hole in the wall. It may also just be that the guinea pigs got used to it of course!Lizzie71 said:Black Jack said:Oooooh! I hope your tumble dryer is not in there as well. My two piggies lived for a year in my utility room on a shelf above the washing machine and tumble dryer, with absolutely no problems. This is a new one on me!
Lizzie71 said:Ah OK, my dryer has an outlet through the wall to outside. That's probably why it was OK.
They hated the noise at first but they soon got used to it.

daftscotslass said:If it's the stuff that's like shredded J cloth then it's still not suitable for any animal. The problem is that these things don't break down if they're eaten and could cause a serious blockage.
next_croc-hunter? said:DSL don't be daft how are they completely different animals they are both guinea pigs they are of the cavia group and both have the same vocal language. and no matter what you should always simulate their natural enviroment shame on you if you don't (not that I'm saying you don't!) If you have a domestic budgie you would try and simulate it's enviroment as much as possible just because you don't get, sya a blue budgie in the wild does not mean you shouldn't simulate their enviroment.
