I've had to put some of my boars back on shavings :(

With anemia the extra washing was killing me and my paired boars needed a full clean out every 2 days!

I feel awful for it but hopefully its only temporary!

I'm a bad bad piggie slave grrrr
 
Mine are on shavings with soft barley straw over, never had any issues heath wise. The only downside to shavings is the mess when they flick it everywhere!

I know what you mean about the flicking everywhere, luckily my hubby is a dab hand with a hoover and never complains about the mess they make :)
 
Sounds like my dream man! My OH probably doesn't even realise hoovers exist!
 
I use kitty litter, so far its very effective, my boys reacted very well to it. Its easy to clean and doesnt fly all over the show. At times I dont even have to clean out the whole cage just their pipi spots and pick out their poops rolleyes .

LOL! I can't complain about my hubby, he's self employed as a handyman, he's always doing projects in the house to improve it, he cook's tea every night as i hate cooking, he helps me get the kids ready for school, and he helps with the housework!

I've really landed on my feet :))
 
He's not the only handy man on the forum, being ex military, I can wash, sew, cook, iron, clean. I even put the toilet seat down afterwards. ;)
 
I've got my old boys on newspaper with a layer of hay on it. Every 2nd day I just roll it up and throw it all away. Spray round the base and put clean paper in. Bob's your uncle, all done!
