:-\I've been extremely naughty and I need to tell you lot about it because I know you will be happy about it and I am too really! My seven year old, Cory, although he dearly loves Scruffy and Sophie, badly wanted to get a rescue piggy. So I duly took him off to a rescue who desperately needed homes for poor piggies. We had the choice of four adult males and after holding them all, narrowed it down to 2. The choice was a chocolate coloured one (abandoned at a bus stop) who sat on Cory's lap purring and nuzzling him and who didn't want to return to his hutch after the fuss, and a ginger one who has been so badly treated it made me cry and who is extremely nervous but once Cory held him he sat licking his hand gratefully. Well, what would you do? Half an hour later we walked out with both plus a hutch that she had thrown in! Chocolate one is Treacle, ginger one is Jake. They are so loving and cuddly I am smitten with them! I told my husband by text expecting a big row - he walked in from work with two water bottles, two food bowls and enough piggy toys and treats for a month! I got all four in and let them make friends. Sophie (the bain of my life that I am trying to make more tame!) took treats from my hand and actually let us pick her up without a fight, and Scruufy and Treacle - well! Talk about love at first sight!

I've gone from being a stranger to piggies to owning four in a less than four months! :o

Aww, that's great news! :D Glad to here you got them from a rescue too!

Sounds like your husband was pretty pleased too hehe.

Are the two new boys going to be living together?

They're in seperate hutches at the moment as they are adults and the rescue woman said they would fight. I'm going to let them have run time in seperate runs but with the runs together so they can sniff each other and talk. The girls love them and are VERY happy!

Here is Jakey, Haven't took photo of Treacle yet.

They are addictive aren't they, I think there's a condition called OCGD that you've caught (obsessive compulsive guineapig disorder ;D). We got our first in July, I now have three and am getting two more in two weeks. Oh and I have two rabbits. Then that's it, no more (yeah right ;) :D)

Happens to us all..... Kathryn is 100% right - They are addictive little things! :D

I was unsure about having one on its own and only lasted four weeks until we got company for Scruffy. Someone told me I'd get addicted and I said no, definately no more, husband would kill me, blah blah blah. I genuinely intended Cory to pick one today, and when he said he couldn't choose and could we have both, the only thing that made me hesitate was not having an extra hutch to allow keeping the two boys seperate. Then the rescuer said she had a spare hutch to throw in and the rest is history! It's so nice having people on here to share it all with tho! :-*

Congratulations!
I only had 4 until the end of august, now i have 11 & am looking for number 12 & then that is definitely it ;D

Abandoned at a bus stop!

Poor little mite. I just do not understand some people ....

Hi Barbara (cavykind) and everyone else!
Regarding what you said earlier in the post about boys not getting with girls......I have today had them out together but in seperate runs - the girls together and the boys in one each. My first mistake was to let the boys sniff each other and they got their hackles up - will they never get along? Obviously I wouldn't house them together, is it ok to have them out at the same time but in different runs or is it best they didn't even see each other. Treacle didn't bother with the girls too much as he's quite stressed out by his move. But Jake was nuzzling up to them at the bars and getting quite excited - will this calm down if he's neutered? Also I wondered about getting them both neutered and pairing them up with the girls but would the girls miss each other? Last thing, Treacle hasn't eaten since I brought him home yesterday afternoon. He doesn't attempt to run away from me like the others do, he just lets me pick him up. He sits on my knee and has a cuddle for as long as I have him without fidgeting at all but won't eat any treats or veggies or anything. When in the run he just stays really still. Is he ok and is there anything I can do to help him settle in?

Sorry so many questions but want to make sure I get it all right! Thank you x

aww well done ! yes I'm sure you have the OCGD , think were all inflicted with this condtion on here ! :D can i just echo wot barbra said, get them both snipped asap, & you will probely find in time they can be paired up & all four will be happy , as for the little guy not eating ive had a few come to me who didnt eat for a day or two, let him settle , its hell of a shock for the little lad, just keep an eye on him , i had a little girl brought in last week who was really scared, but given a few days shes setteled in fine & munching everything in sight ! :)

Should I still get him out for a cuddle or is it better to leave him alone for a bit? I have to get them out though cos I hate the boys being housed on their own. Will the girls pine for each other if I split them?

Do they have somewhere for them to hide in their cage? If so put a bit of hay and pellets in there and I'm sure he'll be nibbling away in private. If you neutered the boys you could pair each boy up with a girl or one boy up with both girls and get two new girls for the other one - a good excuse to get more!

awwwww wow good on you! I bet you feel so good doing that and knowing that you are helping some poor little piggies! I have so much respect for people who do that.... At the moment I am still trying to talk my OH into letting me have a rescue piggie. He keeps on saying if I really want another one why dont I just go down to PAH and buy one? I was like HELLO? Do you not read the guineapig forum? Do you not know whats going on out there? He just looks at me blankly and then carries on reading his paper! lol hahaha

I'm trying to educate him girls - honest! and eventually I will get my rescue piggies! grrrr ;)

Good on you Blondecat! Hope everything is going well!

Trace xx

I've been thinking overnight! I'm going to get Jake and Treacle neutered and pair them up with the girlies. None of my hutches are really big enough to house two pigs tho except for the one the girls are in and I'm dubious about that so I'm going to get new double storey ones. That leaves me with three empty hutches...........
