hello everyone, well i had my guinea pigs this afternoon, two males, and they are so cute! if anyone knows what happened to me last week, well the lady today had already picked two guinea pigs that she thought id love and i did, as soon as she picked the ones she thought out the bunch!one male is chocolate brown and really wirey-teddy i think you call it. the other one is so unusual, ive never seen one like him, hes grey and white, with a white tuft on the head, but he has really got big eyes with a blue line all round the edge and red in the middle! hes beautiful.i love them to bits already! there all snuggly in there hutch outside with a big hutch cover on, and theve come out a few times to explore but everytime we open the back door they run off!hehe. i will take some pics soon!oh I'm in love again!lolx)

congratulations! definitely post pictures:))x)xoxo:(|) have you thought of any names yet? talk to them all the time, that'll get them used to your voice:)

YAY You got them! I'm so pleased for you.

I for one can't wait to see them and the one you didn't hear about sounds like a crested one. I have a teddy too and they have the best fur.

Can't wait to see your photos!

ill deffo take some pictures of them when theyve settled in a bit, ive named the crested one punky, and the teddy one drizzle because his fur looks like hes been out in the rain! lol. gemx

Congratulations! :)):)):)) Your boys sound lovely!
Having two teddy girls, I am looking forward to seeing yours!

Please give them time to settle; talk to them as often as you can, and do not handle them for a day or two at least! Slowly now will build up their confidence and trust, and you will reap the dividend later on!

Ahhhhhhhhhh, Punky and Drizzle sound wonderful, I'm so happy for you gembob! Yes, talk to them all of the time. Mine are inside...but i talk to them constantly...I'll talk before i walk over the the cage...so they know i'm coming and not get so spooked. Also I talk to them about Everything...lol I'm glad there isnt a recorder somewhere.... drool
Now, Molly, who I got on the 18th....has been coming up to the edge of the cage while i'm leaning in and is just about ready to get up on both hind legs and kiss me.....(I can just imagine its only a few days away!)

Aww, Punky and Drizzle sound amazing! I can't wait to see pigtures. x

Congratulations

i agree with Wiebke,
not letting piggies settle can potentially make them nervous or harder to tame piggies x

thanks for letting me know that tip, I'm dying to pick them up, but i will hold off then. its a bit hard to go out and talk to them though because its pouring down with rain(there hutch is outside see) but ive got the kitchen window open so that they can hear us talking, and can listen to the children aswell. my partner is just about to build a run for them, hes just been and brought all the stuff, its only drizzling at the mow so he doesnt mind-he works outside anyway!if the weather carries on though, I'm gunna bring the run in when there ready to be handled though, so we can properly start bonding!I HATE THE ENGLISH WEATHER! gemx

I find it very hard to hold off, when you want nothing better more than to cuddle your bindle of fur... But it makes such a difference, if you can hold off until you have won their trust - they will be cuddlier a lot quicker that way.

Turn the picking up into a ritual with the same phrase and a similar way of picking them up everytime, so it doesn't look like random violence to your piggies! I speak softly to my piggies the whole time I'm doing something with them to reassure them. (Remember, they have an animal of prey's instincts and you have to work around them.)

I have just got some very diasppointed stares from my lot; "Wet grass - can you REALLY do not better?" :{:{:{

Punky and Drizzle?
Those are great names! Yay! xx>>>

I'm so glad for you~ Piggies are just super, wonderful, fantastic pets!
Did I mention that they're cute, too! :<>

Can't wait to see some pictures!

It's tipping down here too.

Wow you lot are better than me, I only manage to wait a day until they are settled in a bit before getting them out. You obviously have more discipline!

More like experience - the longer I can hold off, the quicker I can build up their trust! :)):)):))

And it's a lot easier now that I have others I can go and have a cuddle with; that's cheating, I know! :p

Try to hand feed them bit of veg, so they can get used to your smell and your hands moving near them.
