2 storey cage ,bottom layer bedroom ,loo, and diner ,upper playroom. if i put sawdust up the top for the last week they throw it down the bottom,so 2nite ive left the top with no protection for toilets:...:... but where they had thrown the sawdust and left the base bareish they have been going down to the loo:) clever piggies:)) so just wondering by putting nothing will they keep it clean or in the morning will it stink :(:( . i will keep you posted as it may save on mess,cleaning time,sawdust etc if you have a double layer ,or it could be a bad ideamallethead have you tried it ? should i bin the idea already?/

i know i shortend it mate ,and its late ,,but sawdust :^- trying a level without any/or fleece/newspaper etc ;) ie, we all keep trying things that make a indoor cage smell fresher longer and by chance of a bad idea ive just found that by having zilch on the base and as they are potty trained its so far proving to be a great clean way of keeping the top level:)

I have newspaper upstairs, occasionally they get lazy and dont go down to use the tray so its just there to collect anything they leave behind! Most of the time they use their tray... I cant believe how long the fleece lasts between washes now they are using the tray... I use closer-2-nature small animal bedding and litter which is pellets of compressed paper, doesnt smell and much cheaper than carefresh...

i use just newspaper upstairs because the one time i put Megazorb up there it all ended up on the living room floor :{

thanks for the ideas :) when you guys are saying fleece ,is it just a fleece blanket like the cat/dog ones ? thing is also ive gone and cut a hole smack bang in the middle for the ramp like a total doughnutrolleyes so id have to cut a hole in the blanket and fix it so they dont block the hole , spent yonks planning and doing but I'm getting my hammer to hit my head againmallethead and again cos that felt like i deserved itmallethead

My upstairs loft has newspaper down with a cat litter tray in the corner, half full of megazorb and piled up with hay. My piggies love being in the cat litter tray and I've never seen the megazorb downstairs where the fleece is. They hop in and out no problem - although I did give them a "bridge" they didn't use it at all, so took it away.

But Lord Bernie himself, being long haired and all that, drags the hay down with him rolleyes, but all in all, it's working pretty well and they are dry, clean and not smelly at all :) I just vac the poos daily and brush the fleece with a rubber brush to get the hair and hay off before washing.

I would personally not use sawdust as although it is a good absorber, it can cause cause breathing problems and eye injuries. Extra layers of newspaper or shredded paper work as a better absorber and do not cause problems.

For layering, I would say, fleece at the bottom, then newspaper then hay.
