Hello! Haven't been on here for a long time... but am back now. Everything has changed a bit but looks good!

I recently went to a new vet that was recommended to me. I went about a lump on one of my pigs but also mentioned that my pigs were scratching quite a bit. She had a look and recommended using Ivermectin. She didn't have any at the time but posted it to me. I had to phone back because the leaflet inside only had the dosage for birds (according to weight).

I was told over the phone to give them one drop on the neck (it's the topical kind, not oral) every 2 weeks. It's Ivermectin 0.1% (with birds on the front of the box)

Having looked around on the Internet, this dosage seems a bit low. Especially as it's the 0.1% and not the 0.8% like I've seen used.

Any thoughts? Just thought I'd get opinions before starting as I know lots of people use it.

Sarah

PS. It's to be used on 3 males, all of whom range between 1kg and 1.25kg

I'm familiar with the dosage of Ivermectin but there has been a lot of discussion on here over the last week about it. It does sound low to me too. I think you can click in the 'search' and ivermection, something come up to help you. Othewise there might be something on page 1 of the forum.

I have used the 0.1% ivermectin for birds on my piggies. the leaflet inside the package said to use 1 drop per 60g weight. hope this is of some help to you.

Does it give the ivermectin in micrograms as well as %?

Well my Guinea pig is currently being treated for mites, I had Xeno 50 ( which is actually low for a piggy and is normally used on smaller animals) Ask them if they have any xeno 450 but the xeno 50 can also be used as the vet will probably give the equilivant. As for the o.1% for guinea pigs [*]I think[/*] its the 0.8%. I'm going by what I seen here http://www.pharmaq.co.uk/shop/erol.html#962X0
