Hi, I just want to inquire here. Rocky is being treated for cheilitis with Itraconazole at the moment. (How long do you usually treat cheilitis, coz I don't think there's any changes, not getting better but not getting worse at the same time.) But I brushed his hair the other day and there were small black bits on it. It's not visible when you check his hair although when I shook the comb to a tissue paper, that's when I saw the black bits. I'm thinking it can be mites? Anyway, would treating him with Ivermectin cause any effect with the Itraconazole?

I would definitely check with the vet, some azole antifungals inhibit the detoxification enzymes that normally stop ivermectin being toxic to mammals. You're best getting the vet to check with a microscope anyway to if the black specks are mites or not, piggies can get surprisingly dusty with hay and poop dust and skin flakes sometimes even if they are quite healthy- even skinny pig Tallulah leaves a dark residue of skin flakes and piggy skin grease in her pale coloured fleecy beds!

Thanks @PigglePuggle :tu:

Yeah there are some skin flakes (not much though) on his back but I rarely see him scratching so it isn't really a concern for me at the moment. No change in his appetite as well. It's his cheilitis that I have a problem with. I'm just wondering if there would be any conflict in medication just in case.
