hi all!
we have 8 gorgeous piggies and they are starting to get a bit scratchy sooo we need to get some ivermectin for them preferably drops..
does anyone know the best place to buy this cheaply as everywhere ive found is £26 per piggie! best pet do drops for £23 for 10ml but doesnt say if they are topical or oral and is that enough for 8 piggies?
any help greatly received!

What product have you found? you need to be careful as not to over or underdose any piggies. Ivermectin isnt cheap but if they have got mites then it is essential. If you do treat them with this then please keep a close eye, itching does not always mean mites and fungal issues can also be a problem and a vet trip my be needed. I use Xeno 450 for all my lot. Its not the cheapest but its the correct strength for all piggies (over 800g) and is very effective.

You can get 6 dosages for £24.14, but ideally if you definatly are treating mites then you would ideally need to treat them 3 times (10 days apart).

Hi. I use Beaphar anti parasite spot on. I get it from pets at home or jolleys and it costs around a fiver for 4 tubes so 2 boxes would do 8 pigs, but you would probably need to do them again after a fortnight (still only £10!). I also find bathing them in Nizoral shampoo helps if it is possibly fungal rather than mites. This is human shampoo but safe for piggies. Hope this helps.:)

The drops you're talking about from best pet (http://www.bestpet.co.uk/detailed_product.asp?id=73316) are ivermectin 1% solution and are used in the same way as the spot on but you need to make sure you give the correct dosage depending on the weight of each of your pigs. 5ml will be more than enough for 8 piggies as the dosage is 0.05ml per kilo - 5ml would be the equivalent of 100 doses. Using a measured 1ml syringe to draw up a dose is a good way of making sure it's accurate. This link gives a guide to correct dosages - http://www.guinealynx.info/ivermectin_topical.html. As has been said I would check them over to make sure it's a mite problem you are dealing with before giving them any medication. :)
