Hopefully a bit extra shouldn't cause problems, but I'm not an expert. Really this question should be in the main H&I forum for an expert answer..my pigs were squirmy when i have them their ivermectin i think i accidentally gave them too much? i put in on their skin as advised. should i be worried ? please help
oh okay thanks! i didn’t know thatHopefully a bit extra shouldn't cause problems, but I'm not an expert. Really this question should be in the main H&I forum for an expert answer..
i don’t know much about what you’re saying i’m no expert but i’ve only really given my guinea pig one full bath (i gave her a bum bath once ) ever because she had peed all over herself and i didn’t want her to stink but i don’t think that you need to bathe your pigs unless there is an absolute reason to. not sure tho as i said I'm no expert lolWas also wondering to bath them on a related issue.
they have never had even a bum bath but keep themselves so clean it seems unnecessary?
they do smell a little bit (to me anyway) but seem to be happy and content. I know some contributors say never to bath but surely twice a year is not excessive. I suppose in the wild no water reaches them unless it rains !
all 4 smooth short hair. One a bit teddy.
you might want to try to make your own thread about this you may get more answers !I have been wondering about Ivermectin ?
I got my four girls together in July and they came from a lovely breeder but about 20 piggies in the same shed . Noticed immediately that they scratched a lot so gave 2 doses each 2 weeks apart.
.…since then all 4 beautiful coats and no treatment. I got some more at the time but doesn’t seem necessary?
They only scratch briefly when grooming.
should I only apply when any obvious excessive scratching?
or
should I be giving regular treatments anyway ?
doesn’t seem necessary to me but I might be missing something?
thanks for the reply. they haven’t shown any symptoms and also they aren’t babies i just haven’t updated my profile, they’re adults , oreo is 2.5 and coco is 2I have accidently given a bit too much before - I used a whole pipette on a 1kilo pig when the minimum weight is supposed to be 1.2 kilo. I was trying to count drops - and failed miserably! But piggy showed no ill effects. She was a full grown adult though, not a baby. If you have seriously overdosed you would have to speak to a vet for advice.
Ivermectin is at its strongest when first applied but my vet once mentioned that it wears off over the "next few days". I couldn't tell you how long though. Watch your piggies closely to monitor for adverse effects and the longer they go without showing any the more you can relax.
