Can someone tell me if I can buy this without having to take my piggy to the vets? I noticed tonight he has a small scabby white spot on his side, and having read all info it seems it's mites. I know he was treated when he was brought into rescue a month ago, but obv hasn't cleared it up.:(

Yes, you can buy it without prescription/seeing the vet.

The product most people use is Xeno 450 (or Xeno 50 for young pigs). You can buy it from quite a few places online for around £15 or so. You'll need to do 2-3 doses, around 10 days apart.

There are many schools of though surrounding Ivermectin.

I mean personally I take Fergie & Audrina to the rescue centre I got Fergie from, and they give them a good dose of Ivermec & Valbazen every 3 months and that works fine, they use this timescale for their rescue pigs and they are very happy and healthy.

Valbazen cleans up internal parasites and some exterior ones that the Ivermec might not cover.

But yeah its not worth taking them to the vets, they charge you a fortune. I use to get Xeno 450 and if you apply one-2 pipettes (depending on weight) once a month and regularly brush and check the coat, that should be more than sufficient

Treating for an active case of mites and worming (preventative treatment for internal and some external parasites) are generally classed as two different things, but it's worth bringing it up as the treatment can be "related". Mites can be treated orally the same way as you worm them; though topically or by injection are the more usual treatments for active mites.
