Well, it keeps happening, it's not REALLY bad, but it's not good.

Quite often his poos just get a bit squidgy and unformed, but occasionally they get pretty wet really, REALLY unformed and he gets in quite a mess.

He's pretty old now, he's 6 or 7 years old, he's getting a bit skinny too.

I know he's getting toward the end of his life, but he looks really down when he's got diarrhea, I was wondering if there was a way I could help him, the vet said they can't do anything and they've given me some small herbivore recovery food so, I think I'll give him some of that, it'll get some liquids into him too which is important.

Is there anything else I can do for him? he only seems to get like this after he's eaten greenery, like if he's been outside for a long time and eaten a lot of grass, today he's just had two lettuce leaves and what ever hard food or hay he's eaten.

Any advise is really welcome I just want to make him comfortable as theres nothing I can do to stop it really, the vet can't really help as it comes and goes within a matter of a day usually.

No veg and plenty of hay for a day or so should dry him up, make sure he's getting plenty of fluids. My vet has given me pro-kolin before (for cats and dogs!) which does help.

right, lots of hay, I am giving him this recovery food, it's pretty much just hay and vitimins and water, it's the water part that's important really.

Trouble is when he's feeling like this he goes off his food somewhat, he just lays in his house all hunched up, don't blaim him really I feel like sitting around hunched up when i'm unwell.

Bit concerned actually he seems to be pretty cold and shivering a little occasionally.

I had to wash Columbia because she couldn't reach round to clean herself due to swellings due to cancer - but she had very little body fat and was elderly too and couldn't stablise her own temperature. When damp, I had to put her onto a towel wrapped hot water bottle - that she could move away from is she was too hot - and that allowed her to stay warm enough while drying out.

Is your elderly, skinny piggie also damp?

He does get damp in his wee occasionally yeah, but he's still alright at controlling his temperature.

He's gone the other way now though! I think his poos are too hard!

Have you go other guinea pigs?

You might collect some of their poos and mush them up with water, and then feed him that. Gross, but it could help with stabilising his gut fauna. Sometimes you can see guinea pigs doing that with their friends poo after an illness to kick start their system.

alas no, we haven't :( his companion died quite a while ago but my sister has another piggy at her house, Imight be able to borrow a poo, I guess... sounds so strange XD

Well - they can't make yoghurt with all the good bacteria in - so they eat poo with all the right bacteria in...

Worth a try, as it doesn't cost anything!
