Hi People,
Me and my Fiancée got up this morning to find Jacob (tri colour) with red marks all the way round his nose and mouth, so as we thought they'd been fighting I called the vet at Pets@Home. I took both Joshua (Black) & Jacob to the vet and they explained it looks like he has Ringworm :(

The day after I bought them from Pets@Home I'd gone back to buy some treats and heard one of the staff say one of the others had been found with ringworm. I questioned them if mine could have caught it and they said "If you find it on yours fetch them back and we will pay all the vet bills. Well when I went today the receptionist wanted to charge me at first till I explained and the vet agreed that Pets@Home should pay.

After speaking to the manager they eventually agreed to pay all the bills and gave me treatment and I have an appointment to go back next week.

For now they have advised me to split them up so for now we have Jacob in the shop bought cage which we have placed in the middle of the C&C cage. I have done this so they are still together, but they do not like it as they keep talking through the bars.

Please read our guide; ringworm is highly infectious to other species (including humans). The treatment may not be enough.

Yes we are already washing ourselves after holding. How often do we need to clean the cages out?

I have to be careful as I have a bad immune system

You need to clean out the cages as normal, but it would be good if you gave everything a REALLY thorough dunk/clean now and then at the end again. Please use F10 disinfectant; it is the only one that can deal with both the fungal and the spores. F10 also comes as hand gel and you can use latex gloves for handling. You can find more information in our ringworm guide. Just normal hand washing is not enough!

this actually happened to me too i got my rolo from pets at home, while in the shop they put him on my chest for me to hold him loved him and bought him home. the next day i noticed a really small white mark near his bum took him to the vets and he confirmed he had ringworm and told me to claim the money back from pets at home. then a few days later i started to get red spots on my chest where he'd been put on me in the shop, gradually it started to form i ring so i knew i'd got it I had to see the doctor and get some cream for it, but i did manage to claim all the vets bills and my medication back from them.

I'm having to go to surgery soon for a hip replacement so I got to be really careful. If I catch anything they will cancel my surgery so think I best go to Dr's just incase

Can they get it anywhere? Because we can't see if joshua has it I've been dabbing him with the medication and this morning it made him squeak loud and in distress. It happened on his back near his bottom

Ringworm appears typically around the head area, but it can appear anywhere, especially if they catch it from a companion piggy. Keep an eye on that spot and see whether a roundish bald spot is developing over the next few days.

mine had it around their heads but were also itching and nibbling their backs, so i dipped them all in imaverol and made sure it covered every last furry inch of them, and it's cleared up nicely :)

This is heart braking because they just sit there talking to each other :( I've just seen Jacob pop-corning though so I'm hoping its a sign of him getting better

Illness and separation are never fun, but it is good that Jacob is upbeat!

Does this look like it's healing?

With ringworm, all hairs in the affected area (which is much larger than initially visible) need to come out first. The fungal often sits at the bottom of the hair roots and could otherwise make a comeback. The acute stage is over when this has happened and there is no new exudate/flaking. The hair is starting to grow back inside out. the acute stage can last 1-2 weeks.
