Jaffa's mysterious missing ears

This isn't so much of a problem, I am really just curious as to what might have happened!
So the short version of the story is that I adopted two 2 year old sows from the PatH adoption section at the weekend, Truff and Jaffa. They are gorgeous, but Jaffa's ears have clearly been through the wars, so much that she has no ear folds left. They are fully healed and don't cause her any problems, but would a guinea pig have really done so much damage to another pig, or was this the efforts of another animal or worse, a human? :x

Well piggies lick each others ears as a sign of affection to the pig they are licking. So maybe this is whats happened here. It is a server case by the looks of it, so maybe the piggie she was/is with REALLY liked/likes her?

If that is whats happened to her ear of course.
 
Interesting, I've not come across this before. My main thought is that there's a chance it could be a genetic 'deformity', if it is both ears.
 
Thinking (well, musing) along the lines of Jane, if circulation to the ears was severely impaired, that could have led to the ears 'dropping off' too...?

I'm still wondering about whether it's genetic though, a bit unusual for both ears to be in such a condition.
 
Mmmm, see what you mean about it being both ears. I was thinking maybe something really bad had eaten the ear away, but suppose unlikely to happen to both? x
 
That's what I'm thinking. Not impossible for both ears to have been injured or 'otherwise' but still pretty unlikely.

Tracy, are both ears the same size?
 
when i rescued my rosie at 3 weeks old she didnt have hardly any ears either because the dad wasnt removed so he caused the damage.. he was stopped before any further could be done


but now shes only really got one ear because the others all chewed
 
My Llewelyn was rescued with half an ear missing (and gashes/nibbles on the other). He was living in a run with other piggies, rabbits and chickens.

My guess is mostly bigger piggies!
 
Both the ears are 'missing' but she has more skin left on one than the other. They are slightly different sizes. The edges are jagged - you know how pigs' ears look when they've been nibbled on? But they are fully healed. Inside her ears is completely normal though and she doesn't mind me touching or messing with them. ?/
 
I had a fungal boar here once and had to 'paint' his ears with stuff for the fungus, Vedra warned me the dry part of the ear might fall off completely - wondered if something similar happened here? He had it on both ears

Maybe that's what it is! Truffle's are fine too. It doesn't matter, she's gorgeous anyway, just interesting to hear everyone's opinions on what may have caused it. Thanks for all the suggestions :)

There was another single sow in the adoption centre so I'm seriously thinking of getting her tomorrow mallethead Lethal to look in there!
 
I would go with either severe fungal or been eaten by another piggy in general how is her body condition?
 
my first rescues that i ever took in were 2 sows shelties one of them had no ear flaps at all and very bad ear mites i went the vets and the vet said if a guinea ever has very bad ear mites then they can lose the ear flaps and they dont re grow again this is the only thing i can think of as the picture looks identical the the one i had, in which she no ear flaps via the mites xx
 
could i just add that when she came in she did have ear flaps and the next day when i went to her the ear flaps had gone completely there was no blood or scabing just the ear holes but both guineas did have the ear mites but the other guinea did have ear flaps:{:{
they were given an injection which sorted out the ear mites but the missing ear flaps never have come back:{
 
Hmm..it's all very strange! ?/
She is great condition otherwise but I think she's been in the PatH centre a while, and to be fair they do treat their animals brilliantly, the guy who served me was very caring and clearly had become attached to them. She's a great weight, eyes bright, coat is shiny..they are both a pleasure to have x)
 
My rescue piggy Ben has ears similar to Jaffas only a little bigger. I assummed it was other piggy/rabbit damage. In comparison his new baby friend Bailey appears to have massive ears!
