Jamies breathing is wrong

Jamie is seeing Simon at 6.10 tonight.

His breathing has just started to sound all wrong :( He sounds like he has fluid on his lungs as hes hooting/crackling :(:( Hes eating and acting ok, but I'm not taking ANY chances!

Will let you know what he says when I get back
 
Fingers crossed for Jamie! At least he is being seen asap!
 
Simon examined him thoroughly, listened to his breathing and cant pin point exactly what is. His heart sounds strong/ok, and the noise seems to be coming from his throat or nose region.

Its worse when you pick him up as his breathing becomes a bit more rapid. When hes relaxed the noise is barely audible.

Could be bit of hay stuck in his throat, or a sore larynx...he did an almighty cough the other day, and coughed again as I was putting them back in the car.

We've got Septrin and Metacam in case its also the start of an URI

Will see how he goes over the next week, and if it continues he will be back to Simon.
 
Oooh they don't half test us!

Really hope its nothing and the little one is is ok. My stan is a hooter, its an awful sound
 
As soon as I heard it I thought "heart" :(:...

Simon doesnt seem to think its anything to do with his heart, which is good. Hes leaning towards the start of an infection, so with the Septrin we should get to it before it really takes a hold.

It seems louder since we got back though :(

Can you record it?

I'm just interested because Maggie's illness has never been seen before, by any of the vets and specialists she's seen, but they think that it's probably more common, but just never diagnosed!

That sounds exactly like Maggie's breathing.

I've just found your number in my phone from when you bought the cage - I've sent you a voice clip of maggie's breathing - if you can't hear it, let me know and I can see about emailing it - I don't know how to upload it any other way!
 
This is the same noise Chubbs makes when she has been snuffling in the food bowl; when I put her veg in a bowl, she inhales a little of the water from her veggies rolleyes

She is very prone to it, it isn't a URI in her case, my vet told me Bisolvon (spelling ?) can be prescribed to clear it, but initially I took her to the CCT who told me what meds to give her, which I have done successfully each time it clears almost immediately. I also dab a little Vicks vapour rub just above her nostrils to help clear it.

Hope he gets better quickly xx

P.S. I find scattering their veggies now helps as she doesn't stick her nose in the trough lol !
 
He didnt start doing it until 4pm....and he hadnt had any veggies for a few hours.


I'm hoping it is just something simple, like a bit of hay stuck somewhere it shouldnt be :...

It doesn't come on with Chubbs straight after veggie time either, it takes a few hours. I rushed her to the CCT when it first happened & as she was very perky otherwise, I was hoping I had nipped a URI in the bud, turns out it wasn't a URI at all, she's just a greedy piggy that loves sticking her nose deep into her food rolleyes We came to the conclusion that she gets a little bit of water from her veggies into her nasal passage & since I ditched the bowl for the veggies & scatter them instead it hasn't happened since. Any sign of sniffles & out comes the Vicks plus her medicine if necessary. :)
 
awww sweet thing, this is how stan sounds all the time but quite a lot worse and its more pronounced when he lifts up sniffing or has his head down sniffing.

I have had him checked twice and they cant find anything wrong with him.
 
Sounds a bit like hooting to me. Was he given any diuretic? was there any fluid?
 
Simon listened to him for ages with a stethoscope, theres no fluid on his lungs. The noise is definitely nasal/throat orientated

I have him a dose of septrin and Metacam at 7pm, and I havent heard the noise since about 8pm.....
 
Poor Jamie, hope the antibiotics do the trick and he feels better soon x
 
My George does this from time to time - no lung/heart/URI probs either (checked by several vets). It doesn't affect him in any way & usually passes after a few hours. I usually just put a whiff of olbass oil in front of him & it soon clears. He is forever under the hay & I think he must snuffle some little bits up mallethead

Update this morning - no odd noise, is perfectly fine and is currently scoffing a large bowl of veggies.

Noise stopped about an hour after his first dose of meds. I've given him another dose this morning anyway.

Phew!
 
Does sound like a bit of 'something' got lodged and really happy Jamie seems better...they have a habit of frightening us :x
Some of our piggies make this noise and I'm stalking the pens to pin point which piggy and just keep a very close eye - always turns out to be a bit of hay or whatever thankfully :...
We'll often be in the middle of watching something on the TV and I'll mute the sound if I hear anything untoward...paranoid...maybe. Cautious...definitely :))

Eta: i also have a habit of muting my tv ;) lol

I just saw this. Thank goodness he seems to be better now. What a worry for you.
